Sounds like a bug to me.

I've shot many cloaked ships, so it certainly can be done. I think I HAVE had issues shooting with beams before, but my cannons and most certainly torps always seem to fire.

As stated in previous post, I also did it with my escort, forgot to say that it does have cannons (3 DHCs) as well as torps and turrets.

I've been able to shoot cloak-ing ships (ie as they're running away) but not as they approach me for their alpha strike. The moment or millisecond they begin to deloak, you can target and fire, perhaps that's what you've experienced?

But if you've got a buddy with a cloaking defiant, Galaxy X, or any of the cloaking KDF ships, as I've said I experience both sides, go into a 1 on 1 pvp map (solar wind for example). I can see them coming right up to me, park, and sit there. I can even see him fire his buffs, but I can't click him or tab target him, til one of the following happen:

1. He drops his cloak to fire on me, then my weapons also fire.

2. I use a skill to drop his cloak; ie in a Fed Sci ship or KDF Carrier: photonic shockwave, gravity well, or tachyon detection grid. In my escort, it's more difficult, but mines, both offensive or just the cloaking tractor beam ones. In my fed cruiser, next to impossible except with maybe tyken's rift in the LT spot or mines again.

Just wanted to get a straight answer or other responses: is this mechanic working as intended? Are we not 'allowed' to fire on cloaked vessels til we force them to de-cloak? Is the advantage of seeing them on approach just to have us 'brace' for their alpha strike or run away?

I'm glad at least one other person confirmed that this is happening to them as well, but is there a general consensus or are the two of us the only ones to experience this behavior?

This is most definitely a bug.

I've been able to shoot Defiants/Kling ships that aren't BoPs that are cloaked and forced them to drop cloak before they're fully buffed up. I've also been able to shoot cloaked BoPs/B'Rels and have had them stay cloaked as well.

I have shoot cloaked ships over and over again so it is possible. I was able to do this when they started their Alpha, running away and occasionally while they just wanted to fly past me. I can't remember any time when I haven't been able to shoot them but this doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Maybe I just didn't notice it.

Overall I'm pretty sure you should be able to shot cloaked ships and not being able to seems to be a bug. Did you have any skills active? Maybe you forgot to deactivate MES, your weapons power was at 0, they were not in your firing arc?

I'd say it's a bug.

I did a 1v1 witha BoP and a Miranda and the Miranda could shoot the cloaked BoP that was sitting right next to it.
I did a second test with a Raptor instead of the BoP in case it is different for battlecloak/regular cloak, but the result was the same, the Miranda could attack the cloaked Raptor.

I haven't used Mask Energy Signature since Season 1, almost forgot about that skill. Anyway, my fleetmate approached me from different vectors; fore, aft, starboard, port. I could see him as from as far 7km out.

In my Carrier, with all beams. Power settings 84 weapons, 123 aux (various skills and buffs) couldn't target.

In my Escort, with DHCs, torps, turrets. Power settings 125 weapons, 78 aux. (various skills and buffs) couldn't target.

In my Cruiser, with Beams and torps. Power settings 124 weapons, 98 aux. (various skills and buffs) couldn't target.

How far is the target away when you can see but not target it? I suppose you have also tried it at really close range (< 0.5 km)?

Weird issue. I can't seem to reproduce it.

It sounds more like you are saying you can't target *de-cloaking* ships, rather than cloaked ships??? Im not sure if I've ever tried to target then *while* they are de-cloaking.

As some others have said, it sounds like a bug, because I most certainly have, without a shadow of a doubt, shot at cloaked ships without bringing them out of cloak first. I have also had my defiant shot at countless times while cloaked.

Me neither. Last night I was on my carrier with Full Aux, or my Science ship with Full Aux, and I would see and target and fire on them to drop them out of cloak. (When they were close enough)
