Okay, I'm fresh returned for Season 4, I finally made Vice Admiral, and I'm torn between the Defiant-R and the MVAM Advanced Escort. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the two (I've never been very good at interpreting numbers on a screen)?

When I last played, cannon-boats were the way to go with escorts. At the moment, my base loadout on the MVAM Escort is

Front
1 x Quantum Launcher, 2 x Dual Phaser Cannons, and 1 x Dual Heavy Phaser Cannon

Note: I've also got a Rare Tricobalt Torpedo Launcher and an Uncommon Chroniton I can sub for any of the launchers. Unsure which to go with.

Rear
1x Quantum launcher and 2 x Phaser Turrets.

Aegis Deflector Array

Aegis Impulse Engines

Aegis Shield Array

Consoles are

Engineering: EPS Regulator, Shield Emitter Amplifier

Science: MVAM, Assimlated Module, Halon System

Tacitcal: Zero Point Quantum Chamber, Warhead Yield, Prefire Chamber, Phaser Relay

BOFFs are

Tactical: Cannon: Rapid Shot 3, Torpedo: High Yield 3, AP Beta 1, AP Delta 1, Torpedo: Spread 1, Tactical Team 1, Target Subsystem: Shield 1

Engineering: Engineering Team 2, Emergerncy Power to Shields 1

Science: Photonic Shockwave 2, Jam Sensors 2, Mask Energy Signature 1

EDIT: Updated weapon loadout

Note: I'm only quoting so I can see what you have while I'm typing.

Keep in mind everything I will suggest is just MY opinion. Firstly drop the torpedo consoles and go with all phaser relays. You want to max out your energy weapon damage as much as possible. You're Engineering and Science consoles are fine I think. If you want to run a cannon build then drop the 2 normal cannons and replace them with 2 more DHC. Or you can opt for a dual beam bank in place of one of those DHC and get beam overload 3. As far as your front torpedo is concerned either run the Peng or Quantum. Tricobalts are nice but they do have a 1 min cooldown
. Since you have HYT 3 it might be best to run Quantums up front.

As far as skills are concerned I will leave that up to you. I've never really gone by common builds.

For your choice of ship: I have never flown the Defiant R and to be honest I would talk a Fleet Escort or standard Advanced Escort of the MV Advanced Escort but, that's just me.

Again everything here is just my opinion.

Edit for wording and spelling.

I just replaced the Phaser Cannons with Dual Phaser Cannons. I decided against making them both heavy to help with power drain.

Also, random question, which "set" goes best with Escorts and Cruisers? I've got a complete Aegis set, and part of the Borg and Breen sets (and will have the full Breen set by end of the day).

When I do fly escorts I run Aegis Deflector and Engines with the Borg console and Remen shields. Cruiser I run All Borg except the shields which instead I use the Remen shields. But, that's just my personal preference. Full Aegis is still good on escorts and always ALWAYS have the Borg console lol.

Well then I'm good on Aegis and Borg Console then. I'll save the Breen and Borg stuff for my Tactical Crusier and Dreadnought

What are these Reman shields of which you speak, and how do I ste... acquire them?

Nevermind, I found out.

The Remen Featured Series.... don't remember what mission though. And actually, after taking a quick peak I decided to go back to using the Aegis shields on my cruiser. Reason being is that though the Remen shields do have a slightly higher capacity, only by about 132, I think the +5 to shield efficiency and performance outweigh that 132 points I think. Oh and about the Featured Series I believe it's Admiral T'nae you need to talk to on Starbase 39. Been so long since I first did them.

*nods* I'm finishing off the Breen right now. Then I'm off to do the Romulan eps. Thanks!
