I actually love the entire new Borg mechanic coupled with the new ground combat.

I remember when the Borg were first introduced and how scary they were. Picard and Riker had their hands full. Riker on away team missions against the slow-moving but quickly adapting Borg drones, once 'modualtion' was figured out, he would fire and fall back, remodulate, fire and fall back. If you stand still and the Borg catch up to you, well there's a good chance you may become assimilated...

I think the dev team did an OUTSTANDING job capturing this feel! I actually look forward to encounters with the Borg, just to get this flavor. You actually have to actively participate in combat against them, instead of just mashing buttons until its over.

And that's the whole magic you have to do. Even in the STFs and of course in the normal maps the Borg are slow moving zombies. This usually makes it easy to avoid being touched.

On the other hand all kind of tactical drones now can deal a lot more damage with their plasma weapons, so everything you have to do is to constantly fall back and maybe take cover for remodulation. Or go the simple way, shoot out of cover and duck for remodulation.

Yes. I like the new Borg.. the models have certainly been creepified, like that one female model who's whole abdomen is missing and there's just the cyborg spine (*shudders*). They're managable, unless you draw a litttle too much agro... then they *completely* overwhelm you. I approve of the changes.

I am elated that I got my Borg sets before additional sadism was applied to the STFs.

Remodulation is more akin to "reloading" in a shooter-game then anything else. You're not supposed to rushing in or running around in the open while your reloading. You're supposed to find a relatively safe spot to cover in before remoding. If you find that you're taking an unwarranted amount of flak from drones, try using a direct weapon instead of a cone (i.e. sniper instead of shotgun).

It's actually a lot easier to go through an STF without having to worry about the nodes, it's just that the end bosses are back to being bosses, instead of treasure chests that you have to repeatedly beat open until treasure came out. A Borg Pinata if you would.

Going through them is not the issue - it is the bosses. Some jerk designer removed the alcoves in infected because players developed a strategy.

Same designer gave Armek ability to assimilate (out of the blue), again because players developed a strategy.

STFs are just painful now and it really was not necessary nor has it added any benefit to the game other than to just push people away. Wish it had not been so, as the STFs were one of my favorite aspects of the game.

We'll just have to do what the Borg does... Adapt...

seriously though, some of these Borg do hit real hard.
I keep seeing people get one or two shotted.

The remodulation is a bit long, and to top it off,
I've seen Borg become adapted after only one shot.
Or in the case of multi-fires, a partial shot.
It'd be nice if the remodulate timer was reduced by 25%,
say 3 secs instead of 4.
Would also be nice if you could have a minimum of two shots atleast
before you have to remodulate.

You can remodulate on the move, and it is troublesome that you
can't do anything else while doing so while finding cover is limited.

After seeing Gozers attitude on group content I get the real impression s/he wants real RAID content in STO. YOu know that content that can only be enjoyed by the people who treat the game as a second (or first) job.

Here is Gozer's design philosophy for STF's:

That pretty much validates what I said. Gozer wants old school raid content and wants to keep those dirty casuals out of it.

Hopefully the people who sign his paychecks will snap him back with that crap.
