What you need to do is look for the opposite of what you really want. Last time I went exploring, I was hoping for ground combat, as I've been really enjoying the updates. It seemed all I got was mostly Gather Data missions, with an Aid the Planet, and Scan for Antiprotons thrown in for good measure. Very frustrating! Then I decided to trick the Cryptic engine by not caring what kind of mission I got, because no matter what, I got some sort of reward for doing it. Et voila, ground combat!

But seriously, its the fact that you're looking specifically for these two trace types, thus you're more apt to notice not getting them, and your frustration builds faster. It happens in many areas of life. Just chill, drink heavily, and enjoy the pretty colors.
Well actually the fact that I have literally spent most of my play time over the last couple of months that made me "notice" that in two months of farming, almost daily, have yielded none of the needed PTs!

Actually that is where I have done the majority of my farming at over the last couple of months. After some checking today I have been able to confirm that the drop are random. Frustrating to me yes, but my suspicions have been confirmed indeed. Namely that the very rare drop really are............very rare. Doh. Any case, kinda burned out and plan on taking a break until the next weekly episode series starts. At which time I'll go back and do some more grinding/farming and see what comes of it.

Thanks to all for your courteous input!

I got FOUR Antithoron traces in one "scan five anomalies" system once. The drops are random, and Cryptic's random number generator goes insane sometimes.

And to add some empirical data. This is one of my character with which I soley do the Delta Daily missions in Delta Volanis. This is my haul over some period of days. This is over 23 runs of he Delta Daily. The order is the sequnce I got the first Particle Trace of that type.

1 - Trianium
3 - Duderon
5 - Methogenic
5 - Metreon
7 - Vetron
5 - Dekyon
6 - Beta-Tachyon
2 - Antithron
1 - Anyon
1 - Chronometic

The RNG (random number generator) is a harsh mistress. I've been levelling a Tac officer (Commander 1 right now), and I've picked up around 2-dozen rare particle traces during that time from Ensign to Commander. From my memory, most of them come from exploration areas (Delta Volanis, etc.) but I have picked them up in-system during missions as well.

If you've already hit Admiral, I can imagine what a pain it must be to farm for these. What you might want to do is roll a new officer, something you haven't had a chance to play yet, and just scan every anomaly you find while levelling. You'll pick up a good bit of scans & particle traces you can send to your main to craft with or put on the Exchange for credits.

I do something similar to this.

With the rumoured expansion to crafting in the future, with specialist trees, I'm working to get three crafters (Science, Engineering and Tactical) so if my main needs something, I get my junior officers to craft the schematic before I mail it (and any very rare traces) on to the main.

...Otherwise, it just takes monumental amounts of time to gather enough Chronometric traces to fully kit-out a VA-level ship.

If you NEED something, go buy it. It's not worth your real-life time to farm something that's totally a random drop with extremely low probability

That said, I did find a chronometric at Delta

I've seen an increased difficulty for getting particle traces mentioned a few times in this thread.
Is it not one particle trace each ten won minigames on average anymore?

As a follow up, I came in tonight and logged in again. I did some farming in the Edrian belt and lo and behold I actually secured a Chronmetric PT! That only took months! Imagine my joy? So in that light, I have to ask a silly question I should already know the answer to but don't. How do I send something from one toon to another? I've no idea how to and CLEARLY the mechanic of it all are beyond me. Chuckle. Seriously, no idea how to do that and I've tried!

Yes it is. Though it is a reworked artist sketch I came across a few years ago. I used one of the Mike Golden images for years. I liked this one so much I had to use it. Good eye sir!

PS- Yes I have my original Baron Karza toy packed away in a box. Actually a couple of them. Also the name of my VA level tactical escort ship is............Baron Karza.
