The third installment of our Design the Next Enterprise Dev Diary series is brought to you by STO Lead Designer, Al Rivera. The process of building the next Enterprise continues as we go from art to in-game ship design.
The ship seems to be coming along nicely! I've been a fan of this design since I saw it, and I'm liking the way its been fleshed out!
Console wise, I think I'd like it to follow the design philosophy of the Excelsior refit (as opposed to the Assault Cruiser). I feel that, for giving tactical flavor to a cruiser, its much more rewarding to have 1 LT Cmdr seat than 1 Lt and 1 ensign, especially since that top spot is where the powers get fun anyway. Actually, it might be cool if it was the science equivalent of the Excelsior.
Wow. Really like it, they have reduced the 'neck hole' vertically, looks much more slick. I also like the overall shape and saucer.

(Does everyone know that the Enterprise-A was actually designed for saucer separation? Next time you have a chance, look at the bottom of the Enterprise-A – not just the one in STO, but the one from the movies. It has four rectangles on the bottom of the saucer, which are actually landing gear.)
In fact, the original NCC-1701 Constitution could also saucer separate, as mentioned by Kirk in TOS's "The Apple". Though in a more brute-force way.
Wow, that design is really comng along. As more and more details get flushed out I am really seeing the potential of what it will be in game.
I just have two comments. First is regarding universal BOFF spots. While I agree with another post that say it should not have all universal BOFF's, I think one universal slot would be great. Kind of like the Nebula, though I'd like a universal LT, not an Ensign.
Secondly, I'd forgo saucer seperation for a cruiser that didn't turn like a pregnant elephant.
