Whats the best equipment to use when flying an escort to improve turning and speed. I usually have my power setting to attack. I also have a equipment item that has Flight Turn Resistance is that good or bad for turning?

mhh upping engine power and putting in a Turnrate console is probably your best bet.

However, I dont think that either of these ie worth giving up for anything else (Weap/Shield power) and other good Engineering consoles.

Otherwise the MVAM is probably your best ship (Beta part gives nice boost) but thats also not the perfect solution:

What is MVAM? how do I up engine power? Is it through power management, skills or Equipment?

If you're running engine power low, if you aren't already, speccing into Engine efficiency and Engine Performance will help make the most of what power you have. It also helps to spec into the ship you're using as well.

Also, it helps to be hot on the throttle, you won't turn faster per se, but you can make your turning circle smaller by backing the throttle off then back up when you're pointed where you need to be.

The RCS accelerator can be a good console for this, but in all honesty, I find the only Federation Escort that needs it is the Fleet Escort, although that's probably the only one that can accomodate it without weakening yourself elsewhere anyhow. Also, at lower levels I find the RCS accelerator to be lacklustre in what bonus is gained from it. Using combat impulse engines with the [turn] bonus may help you out a little as they're both "efficient at low power levels" which it sounds like you're using, and obviously the turn modifier improves your handling.

Also, some buffs enhance turn rate, I know Attack Patterns Alpha and Omega do this.

Thanks for the info so far. I am at Captain 6 and I have a exploration escort. I have been putting points in all the escorts and engines, haven't done performance yet but will. I what is the alpha attack is that a officer skill?


I also am using the breen deflector that has:

Flight Speed resistance
Flight Friction resistance
Flight Turn Rate resistance

Do these help or are they not doing much?

Those items help against attacks and debuffs that effect those individual aspects of your starship. They are very effective against the Breen, but quite honestly it's sort of a specialty niche set for dealing with the Breen and you can do a bit better with other sets after you finish that arc. The deflector is probably the most useful piece of the Breen set that you can get though. Other enemies besides the Breen do use debuffs that effect turn rate and speed/engine power so it can come in handy.

The bonus powers given with that set aren't that great either, since Transphasics are still fairly weak projectiles.

If you want to practice turning....switch to some galaxy class ship and fly it for a month or so...it will teach you about turning more than anything else, and you can apply that knowledge to escorts....

options for turning...
increase your engine power.
skill into engine efficiency and engine power.
install a RCS console,
use Aux to Dampeners,
set flight speed to half for a tighter turning arc,
oh and AP Omega has a short turn buff too.

Yeah, spend a little time in a Galaxy and everything else feels like an Aston Martin in comparison.
