Perception is a funny thing. I PUG primarily so I see a lot of... interesting... team make ups. In my experience Feds are typically more defensively focused while Klinks are more heavily geared towards offense. Not everyone who tries to be tanky or Pew Pewy is partcularly effective at it. Shocking revealation, right?

From time to time reading the forums we come across posts where people proclaim the game to be geared more heavily towards favoring a particular class of ship. It's not uncommon to see claims that all I ever see is "x" ship class flying around as "y" captain class using "z" bridge officer skills.

What do you think the game has become? What do you think has caused this shift? How do you think we can shift back? Should we even try? Furthermore, do you actually believe this game has a particular slant or are these claims just a big mess about nothing?

Do you believe that the ship and captain class you prefer has influenced or been influenced by a kind of fundamental skew towards one thing over another?

I exclusively PUG, as I'm not a fleet guy, and I see a large variety of ships. On some days I might see a preponderance of cruisers, other days there are more escorts, and either way, there's always some sort of mix of science ships in there. PUGs are always, in essence, random, so there's always a large variety of combinations in those teams. I don't see this game leaning heavily in any direction. I may see a lot of broken skills & equipment, but I mostly see balance.

Personally, I gravitate towards tacs & escorts because this game is about combat, so I want to be able to do large amounts of damage to take down my opponents as quickly as possible. This may be trek and the PVE people might push for more missions like the diplomatic ones, but the heart of this game is fighting - hell, the PVE storyline missions are based around it - so damage is key. My one science character is in a BoP, and my one engineer might be in an AC now, but when he hits cap, I'm putting him in a Def-R.

One might argue that since this is trek, there shouldn't be such a concentration on combat, but it's a video game. When you adapt anything into this medium, fighting is probably going to be the direction things go. It's hard to write unique storylines about "discovering new worlds" or studying space anomalies. Does not translate well.

I would say the nerf to faw has brought the balance back to pretty even. There will be many that choose cruisers because most of trek is cruiser centric because the most Iconic ship of trek was a cruiser and you saw a lot of cruiser vs cruiser action. I know DS9, Voy and Ent did not revolve around cruisers but all the movies revolved around cruisers.

now if the annoying bugs and things could be fixed we can actually start to balance BOff powers so that things are fun.

Cruisers followed by escort and Int-R... after a huge gap all the other science ships. I can't remember when I have seen another DSSV beside mine the last time.

Kling side is more balanced with BoP on the high end and non kling ships/carrier on the low end. (Exception FvK C&H... there is always a freaky turret killing carrier... must be part of the map )

I went offense, got killed. Went defense, didnt kill anyone, balanced out survived longer, didnt kill anyone, got killed. Teamed up with good people whom i play with on a regular basis and learning their strengths and weaknesses is what inspired my latest gimmick. And im always changing it especially when faced with a new challenge that ends up becoming mainstream and we all have to adapt. Thats a good thing about this game is if it keeps changing im still interested. My sciscort build has been the most effective and and now its tweaked to where i want it i can see this build lasting me awhile. By season five it might be irrelevent and ill have to go back to the drawing board. I am starting to see a good mix of science/escort/cruiser builds in PvP lately and thats a good thing. Im starting to see a better variety of weapons used also. CapNHold anyways. I generally avoid Arena because its usually premades flying around in a circle. Gets old

DSSV is actually one of my favorite ships in the game. Reminds me of the underdog Oberth. I keep one in garage for when i get bored
