I'd hardly say that facebook is only used by "lowest common denominator that the general population is?" either, infact it's quite insulting to imply that anyone that uses Facebook falls into such a pidgeon hole.
For Reference: Lowest Common Denominator means the 1 or few things that are shared by the largest population. With Star Trek 2009, you got a whole lot of explosions, action, and lens flare, but nothing what made the modern success of Star Trek as Star Trek. That is, a thinking person's show in a futuristic setting.
Grow up, man. It's none of your damn business what they want to do. It's note like you own Star Trek. I understand being a fan of the series and all, but that doesn't mean everyone else does. Welcome to the world.
yeah, marketing on facebook allows them to advertise to non-fans, which might make them become Star Trek fans
i understand you want Star Trek marketing aimed only at Star Trek fans (at least i think i do...), but i'm afraid marketing means advertising to EVERYONE possible, including the 'lowest common denominaters'... so unless you want no advertising for Star Trek (which will definitely stop the new fans from coming), you just have to deal with the truth here
btw, i entered i have a facebook myself, though i'm careful to only be friends with people i know
There's a pretty awesome prize drawing on the first page for DVDs of every series and movie. But its on Facebook. I don't have a Facebook account (or any other "social site" account; no, I"m not going to risk Facebook or anybody else trying their damnedest to subversively datamine me), and won't get one.
Also, Star Trek is even on Face Book? Is CBS *trying* to pander to the lowest common denominator that the general population is?
I'm with you OP, I don't believe in, or support social networks like facebook, etc, at all.
And to be honest, a MMO forum isn't really a "social site"

Anything can turn into MySpace haha. MySpace Facebook, either one, one of my friends could hack into someone's computer haha
And professional reasons? That made me laugh...facebook is one of the most unprofessional things in the world.
