# 1 Immense disappointment
07-28-2011, 04:10 PM
I preorded STO... when it came out I had early access... I got so bored I left within a month.

I recently came back and played for a while but I'm bored again already. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but this game just doesnt cut it. I seriously doubt that this game will continue for much longer. I've decided to pre-order Star Wars instead of investing in a lifetime subscription with STO.

My question is, this game is so expensive with the monthly subscription and the C-Store... where does all this money go? It most certainly does not go into this game.

Over a year there has been minimal improvements, looking at the game as it stands today.. I would still consider it incomplete.

So... I do have a question in the midst of all this complaining... most people who like Star Trek would like Star Wars too.. do people believe this game is going to survive when Star Wars, a game with much (much much much much more content) is released?

Anyhoo, yes there is not much to do these days. I wont say like it or leave, but I will say if you are not having fun, come back later, as there is nowt much else to do about it.

A complete overhaul of Sector Space. Several very fun Feature Episode Series. A complete reconstruction of Earth Space Dock. The ability to go back and replay missions. The addition of Shuttles. Several new species. The Foundry. A completely new and fantastic looking Klingon starting area. Fantastic redux versions of Stranded in Space, Diplomatic Duty and The Doomsday Device missions. A complete Gorn makeover. A revamp of Ground Combat. The Addition of Starfleet Academy. And more uniforms than you can shake a stick at (Federation side at least). And much more.

[SARCASM]Yeah, you're right. They haven't improved the game at all.[/SARCASM]

No, I do not believe Star Wars the Old Republic will make as much of a dent in the STO population as you may think. It might take a big bite out of WoW though.

They havent improved the game... theyre bringing it closer to "ready to launch". Star Wars isnt even released and it has at least 10 times more content.

And you know this how?

Come on, man. TOR has shown a lot of videos and stuff, but you don't know anything about how much content they actually have except for what they have told you. When the game comes out, then and only then will you be able to say how much more content it actually has.

Also, remember you're comparing apples to oranges. Just because they're both space games does not make them the same. TOR is a gear based multi-player game with a solo slant and crappy space combat on rails and no customization whatsoever being developed by a company that has taken 8 years and utilized billions of dollars to produce a WoW clone with a Star Wars skin. STO is a skill based solo friendly multi-player game with awesome space combat and customization out the wazoo and was and is continuing to be developed on a shoestring budget comparatively. I don't think one will affect the other in any meaningful way. STO will keep it's niche market because SWTOR does not offer the same freedom and creative outlet. This is, of course, my opinion to which I am entitled.

SWTOR has more content on their site than STO has in the game.

I've already cancelled my STO subscription, this is really substandard.

Wait your playing it.... !!!!! ... Oh my... he is 1337 because he is playing TOR already..

kidding aside
FYI OP... even if it is true.. until you play it first hand... It is best to not make statements on how much content, or how good any MMO is going to be.. because your setting yourself up for fail... A lot of people did that with sto... and well I have seen others who did not learn, and were already calling TOR the greatest game ever.

Let me remind you two things.

1. Bioware is new to MMOs. and they are trying something VERY NEW to mmo.. full voiced single player style experience MMO. That is a huge instanced risk they are taking.

2. and unless your in their inner circle of testing there is no way to know how much content they have other then their reports, and well... those reports are normally not accurate, and blown up... ( at least in my expedience in the MMO launches I have been in )

Also I am not saying TOR is going to be a bad game or is going to fail. It is going to do great, but with any MMO don't get your hopes up... I don't care if it is bioware, blizzard, or cryptic making it. There are not god devs teams out there, and before you say bioware is... let me remind you of dragon age 2... to a good chunk of people. it seems... lacking a lot, and was under quality for their company. ( at least compared to their older games. also remember this is option based. as is all reviews of any game. )

So OP.. it is not good to get your hopes up to high, and not good to make statements like it is going to have more content. because you will never truly know until you have played ALL of the game yourself. never trust the devs with figures about their own games.

Op, I am A huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan but I am not getting TOR because of the simple fact that Star Wars games hardly are worthy to the films (original three) the lone exception could be Star Wars Force Unleashed 1. TOR might have all this flashy stuff but Bioware has started a trend of simplifying games and starting to make them substandard. I hope other BW titles don't suffer this but I dunno.

Now I played this game from Feburary to about May or so and stopped because There was no new stuff for me to do anymore. I came back this summer and enjoyed myself quite a bit. Though you do have to realize that the amount of Devs working on this game is badly undermanned plus they are selling cryptic so I can understand there being some lag in content creation.
