So you want to nerf an entire class of Captains because you don't want to switch out an Ensign level power on your ship?
There should never, ever be a "end all, be all" sort of build... which it seems the OP wants. There's a very easy and very simple counter that you're simply refusing to use, at the price of becoming less awesome in a different department. Can't have your cake and eat it, too. Just keep someone with Science Team in your crew and tag them in when you start to get Sub Nuked or highly expect you will.
Don't get discouraged redphoenix, I have been here from opening day and I suck too. I have fits of nerdrage from being owned in pvp that make the fish hide in the plastic castle inside the tank. I think the lesson here is, a lot of people make good builds within the confines of the game, so it is possible. Good luck and live long and prosper.
I'm gonna quote mozoha here for truth. Keep trying. Sometimes it takes a bit before you realize how to squeeze more from your ship/captain combo. Don't give up. read the PvP forums and look at each lose as practice till you see the problem. also if you show enough and join the OPVP channel and be nice someone/fleet could take you under wing and then you will learn a lot.
I would say that even Sci captains in Sci vessels can't run or turn faster than an Escort or a BoP. If the opposing team is running all Sci/Sci, I would expect that a squadron uncloaking on the rear of one ship would blast that ship to oblivion. Then the attackers should peel off in every different direction, run, and recloak.
Probably harder to do for a Fed Escort squadron, since they can see you coming... in that case, the squadron should approach their target simultaneously from different directions so the Sci/Sci squadron can't concentrate on more than one ship*.
I'm not a PvP'er, but tactically I'd think that approach would work.
EDIT: * - (Of course, the opposing squadron could concentrate on a single ship and debuff it into free-floating atoms, but with the right powers in reserve that ship ought to be able to run.)
As I said, screw this because of the fact that I seem to be the only one complaining about this because I suck at the game. Go on with your happy lives.
No one has said that you suck at the game. Only that you are unwilling to change your build. But that choice is up to you. I personally don't run sci team much (I have a BO available to switch in if I REALLY need it). SNB is annoying, but I deal with it. It's my choice as to when it bothers me enough to switch in my other sci BO. So I usually only do it when there are multiple sci captains on the other team. But it doesn't mean that the game is unbalanced. Unbalanced would be if there was no counter to it.
In recent days Ive seen a lot of science teams with only science characters and its been showing me that the classes in this game are very unbalanced, especially when it comes to science characters. The space combat science skills are too overpowering. Im not talking about the skills you can get on the slots, Im talking about things like Subnucleonic beam, holographic fleet support and so and so. Its primarily subnucleonic beam that irritates me because when youre going against a team of science characters you cant use your skills because they immediately disable them each time. It disturbs me to know that I can immediately get shut down and not even have a chance at pulling a single move on one person even by themselves.
A suggestion to counter said subnucleonic beam is to allow engineering team to remove the buff and give tactical players a natural edge meaning because their ships are maneuverable it should be chance based whether the science skills hit or miss. This should balance out the spectrum in terms of power.
Science: Shields and Debuffs
Engineer: Hull and Buffs
Tactical: Firepower and Maneuverability
thats how it should be.
You should probably be more worried about a good Photonic Shockwave hitting you then.
Unfortunately Sub neuc does need a fix, science team yes it does remove the debuff it puts on you. But your buff's are still cleared and you are still in trouble. To make it even worse you can pop a buff again and get another sub neuc on you that clears your science team. There needs to be a diminishing cooldown or at the very least there being a chance to resist it or something. But all science teams are almost untouchable, cause they just debuff you to death.
