I would like to see the Federation have a carrier, and maybe a battleship, would this be possible.

The Akira is a carrier. I don't see this outside of possibility. Many things are changing and the future is never certain (I refer you to all of the previously 'exclusive' items).

Oh look. Another fed carrier thread.

Is that the flavor of the month?

I still vote for Tier 5 Constitution (because we already have older ships like D'Kyr, Marauder, and the coming Kumari. All of which make less sense if your issue is 'appearance of age').

I also still vote for Skant.

And... I can be persuaded to vote Undine.

But carriers are something that we've been sorely lacking when the Federation did, in fact, have some.

The Akira is not a carrier. The designer may have originally intended it to be some kind of gunboat/carrier, but in the end, it wasn't one. It debuted on screen as a destroyer, or some kind of cruiser. That is pretty much a fact.
Feds getting a carrier is pretty much not gonna happen. Like, ever, I'm gonna say. We already have ship types that the Klingons don't, and I don't see anything wrong with them having ship types that we don't. It helps keep the factions different and interesting if they have their own things goin' on.

This entire segment is pure speculation and nothing of the sort is ever stated within the show itself.

I wasn't aware you spoke for Cryptic. If it's all the same to you I'll let them state what will and will not happen in the near future (as even they can't predict what will always happen in the long term).

I'd also like you to point out what the we have that the Klingons don't. We have cruisers, they have cruisers. We have escorts, they have two different types of escort like ships. We have science ships, they have science ships. They have a carrier, we do not.

No matter how you look at it, when it comes down to it they have a wider variety of ships available to them at the end of the game than we do. We simply have more variants.

True. Still, there is this:

Quote:
the Akira Class had unusual feature of the through-deck shuttlebay located in the saucer section. The large bay had access points at the bow of the ship as well as at the rear of the saucer, located between the engineering hulls. This large bay allowed the Akira to act as a carrier for smaller craft such as shuttles and attack fighters.
Akiras CAN become carriers, even if their primary role is not. That this may happen in STO is another matter altogether. Though I tend to side with the "no Fed carriers" faction.

In the (basically PvP) mod for Star Trek Armada II, "Fleet Operations", Feds do have a carrier class, the Avalon, but that's more exception than rule. And even in that case, it's just one of the avatar-specific ships.

Don't get me wrong. I'm one of the highest T5 Constitution fighters as well because I believe in freedom of all ships at endgame. But the last thing the federation needs is spam central.

When I want to send out fighters I spend the time in the vault for that exact purpose.

Except Klingons can send out more than just fighters.
