Normally i would say your right but as this would be a recurring event say every 4hrs I feel it would not be an issue. and even tho "war" takes place on a different server there could a cross connection via the game eng that would or could just switch you over when the event started. if you opted in.
but that's just my opinion

Now this a a quality idea , if. I ever heard 1, trying to get a pvp game at lower ranks is just a pure nightmare ,, im ranking up a new toon and its so slow

I fear such a large instance population would be craptastically laggy for everyone. Even the 10v10's pose a problem every now and then.

That and I have to agree with the sentiment that once TOR releases the game will be a ghostown, especially pvp. I hope it won't be because I don't plan on going to TOR, so I hope the community population will be tolerable enough to give some good matches.

Watching 20 or 30 ships and their spam getting sucked into a gravity well is something I would relish

I understand, I think, the posters issues. I do indeed long for larger matches. I absolutely relish 10v10s, it is one of the reasons I CnH mostly lately, big battles excite me. But even 10v10 kinda leaves me wanting, I could happily play larger.

Still, I'm dubious about the game's ability to successfully run an instance with as many players as the OP suggests. I do however feel that cryptic could afford to

1) raise the player cap in matches
2) allow larger teams than 5 players
3) implement a red/blue chat channel

I would indeed be a happy chap if they did all 3. They would no doubt of course have to take steps to ensure that this runs smoothly. I don't think the current infrastructure is good enough, even 10v10 gives annoying graphical anomalies, like invisible gravity wells and such.

edit:

And they would SERIOUSLY have to ban pets of any kind from such games or I likely wouldn't even consider it.

I hope they never do that.. and if they do they better add a different queue for that. Large scale battles just mean it gets more zergy and the individual player skill will matter less for the outcome of the battle. I prefer individual player skill to matter, number games are mostly boring.. 5 is just about the right size to have teamplay and have individual playing skill matter.

If they fixed the UI to not lag the game badly with a lot of junk and ships in one spot, I would support a larger cap. It would be mad fun, but as it is it would probably play at like 1 fps.

100v100 would be far too unbalanced in STO.

Just imagine, 100 Klingons all in carriers, feds would not have a chance in hell on winning, because instead of 100 they would be facing like a "thousand" ships bearing down on them.

And that alone of course would probally crash the server. :p
