# 1 New Update, more Problems
08-07-2011, 12:45 AM
Hi Folks and Devs!

I'm sure, I'm not the only one with that kind of problem. I startet STO yesterday afternoon (around 16:00 pm) and there was a new 2.8 GB patch. I downloaded it (it finished sometime between 23:00 pm and 09:00 am) and thought, it would have the solution to the lag problem.
But now, as I tried to log in, I see, that the lag has only gotten worse.
Yesterday around midday it was neraly possible to play without lags (nevertheless I did experience some of them, especially when I entered the sectorblock-map). But today, I need almost half an hour only to reach the sectorblock-map.

I'm sure, the devs are working on the problem, but since there have already been many pople complaining about those lags, I figured that I won't be the only one experiencing these lags.

I bought STO approx. 3 Weeks ago and it worked just fine until the day, Cryptic took the foundry offline.
So I don't think, that there is a problem with my system or my LAN-connection (because everything else I do in the internet - including playing online games - works perfectly).

But for better knowledge of my hardware and settings, I list up my main components here.
Hardware components:
.) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
.) Intel Core i5 Dual Core, 2.53GHz
.) 4,00 GB RAM
.) NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, 1024 MB (including the newest driver)

STO launcher settings:
Language: German
Proxy: EU

It would be nice, if anyone from cryptic could give me (us) an estimate, how long those repairs are going to take because at the moment, it is not possible to play the game!

Edit: For better understanding of the named times: My location is in Vienna, Austria.

There was no patch or update. Im not sure why you downloaded anything. Maybe it was just verifying files and not actually downloading.

Just because other things work does not mean your internet is fine. There could be something interfering with your connection to just STO. You should do the standard troubleshooting of disabling firewalls, antivrius, bypass router, ect. You also may want to follow the instructions and post results in this thread.

Thanks for the tip. Afterwards, you'll see my results of the tests.

Test 1 - Tracert:
1 * * * Timeout
2 13 ms 11 ms 12 ms 84.116.5.121
3 46 ms 11 ms 15 ms 84.116.228.17
4 12 ms 14 ms 9 ms 213.46.173.14
5 15 ms 16 ms * 213.46.173.226
6 153 ms 167 ms 126 ms 89.149.183.13
7 138 ms 124 ms 120 ms 77.67.77.54
8 119 ms 122 ms 118 ms 63.251.128.41
9 138 ms 124 ms 127 ms 216.52.61.78
10 120 ms 120 ms 117 ms 208.95.185.41
end of tracing.

Good results acc. to Cryptic:
Values lower than 180 are ideal for playing MMOs (and anything under 100 is outstanding). Higher values usually cause lag and rubber-banding in-game. Report any values above 180ms.

As you can see, the maximum of all values is 167 ms, which is definitely lower than the requestet 180.

Test 2 - nettest:
unable to acclocate performance buffer

Idle NIC bandwidth Send: 0 KB/sec Recv: 0 KB/sec

I also ran an additional standard bandwidth/speedtest on the internet at http://www.bandwidthplace.com/
The results:
788 KB/sec download speed (98.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
131 KB/sec upload speed (16.4 KB/sec transfer rate

I see your point, because the nettest results ar very different from waht the should be (Column 1: 300-500 KB/sec; Column 2: ~20kb/sec; Column 3: ~300- 500kb/sec).

But: What can I do about it and how can I correct it so I will be able to play the game smoothly? And why could I play for nearly a week without such lags and suddenly the appear?

I'm grateful for any help!

You timed out on your first hop of the tracert, there could be an issue with your router or firewall.

That bandwidth test you did is pretty low. What are supposed to be your advertised speeds? That upload speed is barely better than dialup, and STO requires broadband. There could be an issue with your ISP and you may need to call them.
