Also, if they do "fix" this issue one has to wonder what will get broken in the process.

Presonally I can live with how it is, because I don't want them to break anything else as a result of trying to fix and improve the current system.
I thought they got a guy to rewrite the autopilot routines? Been waiting for months for the fix whilst chucking lemons at my own personal Chekov for aiming too low or too high at final way points, turning into ships instead of steering gently away, doing all low speed sector space turns at warp 4.5 instead of using warp 2.25 when merited, plotting a course from Sol to Alpha Centari when I clearly said Eta Eridani.

Little live action footage edited into in game footage and I bet we can make a minor YouTube meme of this phenomenon. Wonder if it can be made so that it get on Rocket Boom's Know Your Meme?

Now a-days I pretty much manually change to a heading and then blindly shuffle forward till I get near my destination. AutoPilot be ye damned. Still I am waiting for this fabled fix to AP.

agreed.

on a grander scale though I wish we could just tell our helmsman which sector block we wanted to go to and you could go there without further input. Like say Psi Velorum to Eta Erandi going through a few sector borders

Sector borders may be going away. That could become possible then.

Considered for Season 5

* One sector map to rule them all (eliminating sector walls entirely)

Re: Starfleet Helmsman Targeted Acquisition-Retention Deployment

In accordance with the groundbreaking study published by the Betazoid Utilization Laboratories' Social Heuristics Team, the Federation Council has approved the placement of specific species in dedicated roles aboard ship. These positions are to be filled on a priority basis based on the B.U.L.S.H.T. recommendations in Section 25:31 sub A. These criteria, highlighted by the Learned Ostracism Social Exclusion Rating index, show that certain species are prone to systemic under-utilization. The species that placed highest on the L.O.S.E.R. indexes, the Pakleds, require special consideration to reverse this trend. The helmsman position aboard certain Starfleet ships has been selected as the dedicated shipboard role in order to validate the B.U.L.S.H.T. L.O.S.E.R. hypothesis due to the fact that the helmsman position is so easy an annoying adolescent human could do it. Positions are to be filled as soon as possible. All documentation regarding these L.O.S.E.R.s must reference this program (ex., Dirk Khrapstayn, Helmsman T.A.R.D.)

Adm. Milena Desjardin, Starfleet Personnel
I think this could be contributing to the problem...

This wouldn't fix the problem. It just makes it easier to travel between places.

Of course, this means that we'll get ANOTHER new Diplomatic Immunity, since the current one allows you to go to Omega Leonis.

It may make it to where at least you don't mid so much. With the sectors one big map and no DSE agro you could essentially set you destination and go grab a coke or something. There, now if your helm goes all mental along the way you wont care so long as your ship makes it to it's destination before you return.

Only aggravation i can think of is coming back to see your Ten Forward 4 sections deep in a star 40 light years from where you wanted to be.
