I suppose I understand the original 45 degree, changed to 60, limits for player balance. Actually no I don't. I strongly dislike getting hit on the right side while dpsing my target and not being able to roll inverted to get my left shield toward the side attacker while I finish off my primary.

Now I use the same frustrating tactic against high dps escorts that they use against me, that is to get above them and echelon up so that only their turrets can fire at me while I get into a better position to reengage. Just because I use it does not mean that I would not prefer a true 360 maneuvering environment. A true 360 gives me many more offensive and defensive options to use.

I don't care for player balance that limits those of us with flight sim backgrounds, in favor of those who might not have sufficient knowledge to be competitive right away. PvP is a learn as you go type of combat, which is heavily team dependent but individual ability also strongly effects the team.

Now I have been playing since beta, and this Aces of the Deep(submarines in space) maneuvering limit has always bothered me. I am not asking for Asteroids type of maneuvering here, even though that would be great for shuttle pvp, but I am asking for a realistic maneuvering environment.

Even for what it is lacking I still pvp, mostly with the fleet but sometimes single. This is not a deal breaker for me, its just a man would not this be better if I could.

Unfortunately, it was stated very early on that full 3D movement will not be possible in STO due to engine constraints.

I just had a vision of a Galaxy-X doing a barrell roll in my head. Kids, don't do this at home....

I think different classes should have different degrees of roll that they can do. Escorts higher, cruisers lower.

What do they mean 'engine constraints'?

All they need to do is remove the angling limits (easy to do- they've done it before) and remove the camera rotation limits.

The ships can currently move in all the directions that matter for a quasi 360 degree environment to work.

EDIT: They already have the code in the engine for full ship 3D movement- ie: the ship tailor screen. Just port that over.

Discussed TO DEATH. Not going to happen. And no, it's not a technical constraint.

I can understand why Cryptic doesn't want full 3D movment, but I fail to see what the problem with 90 flight angle would be.

That's not true. It was in early beta of the game. However, a few weak-minded, weak-stomach individuals got disoriented and probably threw up on their keyboards and Cryptic forever decided to condemn the rest of us to what it is today. Jerks.
