If I buy Aegis items on the Exchange, do I have to be an Admiral to equip them? Or can I equip them at my current rank (Captain)? and will they scale up automatically as I reach Admiral from Captain? Thanks in advance.

Don't remember but I believe you need to be at least RA to equip.

Yes, you need to be a Rear Admiral to use Aegis gear.

In the meantime, you can get the Breen Absolute Zero Set from the Breen Featured Episodes, which are available starting at Lt.10 (However, the Set doesn't scale, and you need to 'replay' the Breen episodes every time you advance in Rank to stay current with your abilities)

All the more reason to level on up. Nice to have goals, like what my Tac and Sci alts did when my Eng main made Aegis systems for all three of them.

Like was said before, you'll need to be at least a RA to equip, but crafting them can be done at any rank as long as you have the particles and the research points. One reason I do so many Diplomatic missions, along with Delta Flyer crafting, I get a load of particles, and easy non-combat experience to boot.
