Good topic, I too have wondered how the rest of u guys fly.

I wasd, full impulse is e, and I use my left pinky and thumb to hit control or alt for all of the slots on the tray. I only use the mouse to look around. Everything else in the numpad. Even throttle up and down.

What I find the most different from others in the way I fly is I use spacebar as my targeting tool. Assigning the numpad plus key for fire energy weapons and the minus key for torps. Also I use page up page down home ect cluster for my preset energy levels. And up down left right for shield distribution.

I just really hate using the mouse. To me, I just felt like it NEEDED to feel like a lcars console. I press a button for everything. No binds. 1 key 1 power. Dancing fingers.

*sings life forms* badabumbum...... Oh data.

I've screwed my binds up from the start because of the default set up I used on a different game that I played for years (>_<).

I use NumPad 2, 4, 6, 8 to steer in conjunction with the Chase Camera. I use the third tray option for 30 skills all accessible from simply pressing number keys, or a combination of control and alt. I have a space bar bind that fires off two fore energy weapons, one (or sometimes a second) energy weapon in the back, as well as redistribute shields. I keep things like dual beam banks and torpedoes on the base number tray so it's just one button to fire (although most times I still have to hit that one button repeatedly).

I'm slowly trying to train myself to play again after having removed redistribute shields from the space bar and remapped it to NumPad 0 where my thumb can easily hit that, or go to the arrow keys. I'm not sure I can't handle that degree of thinking and coordination but I want to see if it'll work, lol.

The Chase Camera option, which I use because I still really struggle to figure out where my ship is aiming, has a problem handling fast, tight turns. It has a tendency to start jerking from side to side until you reset the camera which I applied to the NumPad 5 key since it's right there and easy to hit while trying to pilot.

I prefer Tab Targeting. It's been improved but it's not quite what I want it to be yet. I typically only use the mouse to target something that Tab Targeting isn't able to quickly or reliably catch. Other than that I don't use the mouse for much of anything.

Keyboard (G-15) with keybinds to mouse button 4 (right thumb) which is great in space but blows chunks on ground

I am mostly a click to win guy (or click to fail... "Oh, another wasted Ablative Armor cooldown *boom*" "damn, I need to distrubite shields, but I also need to use a heal").

I WASD for movement (Q and E are for throttle, very important to control that right in an Escort), and I use the mouse for looking. I find it difficult t use the mouse for steering, though.

Mavairo recently mentioned a Razer Naga recently, and it sounds intersting. More buttons on my mouse could be useful...

I guess one reason why most ppl find the steering with mouse so difficult is because in default settings you have to keep both mouse 1,2 pressed down all the time witch i did at first too to like level 10-15 with zorena and my arm was bleeding internaly after like an hour, so i changed it to just right mouse button.

It varies for me somewhat depending on what ship I am in, I probably should have given that caveat in the other thread.

Escorts:

I rely heavily on the dual mouse buttons to steer. I find it most useful when on attack runs, as I can just point my ship in whatever direction is necessary, with general accuracy. It is kind of like a temporary chase camera. I actually use the free cam as I just HATE the other cams so much. I want to look, where I want to look.

I do use the WASD too, but generally only in close battles, particularly when trying to out-maneouver another escort.

I have minimal binds for my space key (EPTS, TT, Fire cannons and distribute.)
My DBB is on a separate key so it is never on cooldown when I buff BO3 or use BtE.
Attack buffs are spread over to keys 1 and 2. 1 is for primary alpha (captain skills mostly), 2 is for general damage skills (CRF, APB etc..)
Have quickbinds for heals, powermodes, present maneouvers etc..

Despite this, I also find myself clicking on icons too. I guess I am a bit erratic in that regard, just sometimes I like to be selective and most of my binds are quite generic.

All other ships:
Fly almost solely with WASD as the accuracy of where my nose is pointing isn't as important to me. Tend to have a lot more things bound to space.
Standard "oh crap!" binds.

A lot more clicking of individual skills on my sci, again, nice to be selective.

Free camera on all toons. For this reason I still use my mouse a lot (if you ever watch any of my vids you will see I change the angle a LOT.) so it is still a heavy part of my playstyle.

I have a standard keyboard and mouse so my options are somewhat limited. Right hand mouse, left hand keyboard. Most of what I use on the keyboard is bound around easy reach of the WASD keys.

I guess my years of guitar playing have made me resilient. I still use the 2 button method to fly. Don't know why though, habit i guess, I guess I only need one...I think what I like about it is that I can look by holding one button, and when I see something of interest, hit the other one and boom, im flying in that direction.

Maybe I should give that a try. Having the hands free to do keyboard work would be nice. And I already use the mouse heavily for target acquisition and camera control.

Oh, and the X-Wing/TIE FIghter fan in me made the focus fire $target keybind "SHIFT+A".

Since some people are sharing keybinds too, I'll post my generic ones too. These are ones that I tend to put on every build. Consistency and all...

t "throttleset -1"

g "throttleset 0.25"

h "throttleset 1"

q "$$Throttleadjust -.125" (escort only)

e "$$Throttleadjust .125" (escort only)

` "$$GenJailAdd HUD_Weapons_Root$$StatsPreset_Load Preset_1"

shift "$$StatsPreset_Load Preset_2+ shield skills"

r "$$+TrayExecByTray 2 3(battery)$$throttleset 1$$+TrayExecByTray 0 2(evasives)$$StatsPreset_Load Preset_3"

y "c team focus attack on >>$target<<" ()

b "$$Throttleadjust -.50$$StatsPreset_Load Preset_3$$+TrayExecByTray 0 2(evasives)"

As you may notice, all of these are well within reach of WASD without me moving my hand or even looking at the keyboard.
