Hmmm - I pretty sure the 'Target Subsystems' are Beam specific skills...

... therefore they don't work with any cannon weapons.

Oh? Do tell. I've never run an all-turret build before, so I am definitely curious now...

An "all-turret" build would seem appropriate for something with an abysmal turn rate such as the Klingon Vo'Quv carrier (which turns even slower than the Galaxy class cruiser).

Anyway, what I really wanted to know was if "Cannon Scatter Volley" cause turrets to fire at enemies other than the one you have manually targeted? If so, can they also target enemies at any angle (e.g. fighter craft that are swarming around you)? Basically, I want to know if this can be used like "Beam Fire At Will" to shoot enemies all around you.

no scatter volley will not work like Fire at Will basically if you have 3 ships coming at you and you target the middle one scatter volley will spread out and hit all three until the other ship get out of the arc it fire

Scatter Volley with Turrets just shoots a cone towards the target you are currently aiming at. Do not confuse it with BFAW. Think of it like a rapid fire Shotgun blast because that is EXACTLY how Scatter works. It even deals more damage the closer you are to a target and as a side note NOTHING charges up the Energy Javelin faster than Scatter Volley.

As for why Beams are the only things allowed to target sub systems... LOL... Because beams do such pathetic DPS that they HAVE to have some use.

2) Makes up for beams' lesser damage, due to arc of fire. (Gets back to 1, although Science Vessels ended up getting Sensor Analysis as well, so apparently it doesn't help compensate for low damage THAT much)

3) Prevents Escorts from making full use of it even if they gain the skill with a BO.

4) Targetting a specific subsystem requires precise aiming and a fast travel time weapon. Beams strike the target sooner than energy bolts, and the point of impact can be used to adjust the aim continuously. The energy may also be built up on the target more gradually.

5) In the canon, Federation ships loved to target subsystems as a non-lethal method of defeating a foe, and they all tended to use phasers. So the connection was made between non-lethal tactics and the beam weaponry of the Federation. (Note also phasers seem to have a "stun" setting but blasters typically don't)
Thankyou for the detailed reply!

Thanks. I guess that means that I need beams for the "shoot everywhere at once" ability.
