# 1 Spam edicate?

Whats the general consensus for using spam in a premade/pug made? Whats your definition of spam? What limits do you put on your team as far as using spam if any? Is it only considered spam when more than one ship is using the same skills. And if only one ship is using these skills or weapons in the game would it still be considered spam? . Im not griefing im looking for some perspective and perhaps a little education.

Well, there are some people *coughcough* that will call anything you use against them spamming. I've been accused of spamming FBP, Sensor Scan, Borg procs (that's my fave), and Phaser procs.

My personal definition of spamming: Using an ability (or item) in coordination with your team (or even by yourself) that's specifically intended upon griefing your opponent. Now, I know many people can say that just about any ability in STO can be used to grief your opponent (Sci abilities in particular), but there is a fine line; Stacking Tyken's Rift/chaining Gravity Well, for example, is not griefing. But loading up on Pengs (obviously) or throwing out Scramble after Scramble after Scramble is spamming. Mines are also a prime example of spamming; they do nothing more than clutter your target's screen, making it a test to see who has the "never target pets/deployables" option enabled or to lag them out.

Using abilities that are generally acknowledged to be broken is spamming as well. FAW/Scramble (3, especially) are straight up spam. SciFleet, to a lesser extent, as well. While you can't get away from the fact that all Scis have SciFleet, you can spam if you load up on Scis specifically for that. But, if you run a Sci heavy team for other reasons (Sensor Scans, Sci-oriented fleets, pugs, etc), then having multiple SciFleets available is simply a fact of the game.

To that end, I have a personal "blacklist" of skills/items I'll never use: You won't see me using FAW, Scramble (of any level) or mines until we as a community at large have come to agree that using them isn't an issue any more, either from direct changes to the skills or indirect changes to the rest of the game.

Heh

Having fought the OPs Intrepid a few nights ago, I can only say "lol" to the main abilities you mention

I refuse to use:

Hargh'Pengs
FAW
Mines
Fighters
Carriers
Scramble sensors

These are all things that aggravate me though I wouldn't necessarily count them all as "spam". Generally when I see them in use, especially en-mass it inspires a feeling of disdain inside me for the person using them, and I would rather not feel that way about myself. I will say I have experimented in a couple cases with FAW and Harghs, but that was all it was, and they never stayed on my build long.

Does that include my trusty Kar'fi?

I mean.. It uses all Cannons and Turrets, and with one frigatebay, it can hardly be called spam

(I did test a pengbuild, but it was simply too boring gameplay for me)

I guess I was thinking primarily of the Vo'quv.

Adding to my initial comments, I don't have issues with either photonic fleet or fleet support and generally don't view them as spam.

On all of my characters, out of personal preference I refuse to use:

Hargh'pengs
FAW
Fighters
Scramble Sensors 3

I do use a single unspecced Scramble 2 on one of my builds, since it's an integral part of it - and anyone whos fought Alana in PvP will understand how. And no... it's not to keep whole teams perma-scrambled. lol

One character I have has two mine launchers equipped so I always have some ready, however I think it's how you use them if they're determined as spam. The builds designed to slow/hold ships, so having Chroniton mines is ideal. However I don't fly around constantly launching mines needlessly to clutter the screen, I just launch a single set in very close proximity to a target or when an escort is right behind me. More often than not they fly to the target and detonate relatively quickly. If not, I lure the target through them. Point is they're never on screen for long at all, and I try and restrict the number used (especially if I see someone else doing it!). I think part of it is just being personally responsible.

But overall, I couldn't have put it any better than what mvs5191 posted.

People use spam often with Scramble sensors + pet ships and fighters and mines, it makes the battle quite annoying. People also think they can win by using it, and often they succeed. Well, I know of a Carrier which is uncapable of using his spam properly. \o/

There is truth in what Raketh says, it's not so much mines that are the problem, it is how people use them.

you can clear mines with the tab target. if you have the target pets deployable thingy on....

but faw works better....and so the cycle begins. spam counter spam = full of fun

is trac beam, tykens, grav well, and warp plasma on a focus'd target spam? or a positioning combo?

there is a fine line.

also just say no to peng.

see you on the battlefield.
