sine I started playing STO i have wanted a True Battleship with a Cmdr Tac slot why should the the ENG & SCI class get the cruisers heck SCI classes can even fly MVAM escort now, and we all know an ENG in a Defiant can be mean peace of work.

yea I know we have the Excelsior but that's still more for an ENG class, I don't think I am the only one that would like to see this, so my question is it an issue of a Fed Battleship being to OP ? or is there another reason we have not seen one yet ?

What Escort has a Commander Engineering slot or a Commander Science Slot?

What Science Ship has a Commander Tactical slot or a Commander Engineering slot?

The Excelsior, as you say, has a Lt. Commander Tactical slot. No Cruiser currently has a Lt. Cmdr Science slot, but that doesn't mean one won't be added later. Quite honestly, I think that's the best you're ever going to get.

And even more importantly, that's all you should NEED. With a Lt. Cmdr slot, you have access to every single Bridge Officer power available. Some of those powers you have only level I or II, but there is no Tactical power the Excelsior can't get.

Yeah, this doesn't work in my opinion. If you want a Commander Tac that's what escorts are for. I get that they want to toy around with the Lt. Commander stations to create more and more powerful hybrid ships, but a Cruiser with anything but an Engineer Commander station feels wrong.

I understand where you're coming from OP, you want a true battlecruiser, i.e. a large cruiser with significant firepower and solid survivability (battleship ain't happening until you get access to the Odyssey-class).

Fact is though that Cryptic is likely to never let us mess around with the BO setups of ships that don't already have universal stations. So don't count on being able to modify your Sovereign (or w/e) to have a commander tac, and Lt. Cmdr eng at any point in the foreseeable future.

the game would be so much funner if there were station setups like that. like the standard tier 5 ships that lean 1 direction or the other having their commander station be the different type, not just an ensign station.

sovereigns with commander tactical, star cruisers with commander science, fleet escorts with commander engineering, etc. retrofits like the galaxy can keep the native commander engineering, but ships like that should have a tlcom in a different profession. not only would it be funner, it would be more accurate to what the ships are capable of.

I can live with a LTCmdr slot but i'm Just not a fan of the excelsior, but that just me ...lol
but that's only part of what I meant of the 3 classes the Tac's native abilities is the only ones IMO that can't make up for the Lose of a BO power when going to other ship types

ENG have MW and EPS pt & NI & RSF
SCI have SNB & PF & DF
Tac's we get APA & FOMM the only 2 worth saying other then on the ground.

1. The Retrofit Advanced Escort has a Commander Science slot.

2. The Retrofit Nebula Science has a Commander Engineering slot.

Looking at the lists of Commander powers, I don't see any Engineering Boff skills that are any less suitable to the idea of a Battleship than the Tactical Boff skills.

Who says a Battleship has to have a tactical in the commander slot anyway? Are Engineers and Science officers not qualified for battle? If that's true then anyone who picks Science or Engineering at Character creation is doing it wrong.

Nope I would say both those classes already have an advantage using ships that are outside of there ship class due to there native abilities where as Tactical class abilities come more into play when Doing DPS which means there pigeon holed to escorts or an excelsior IMO
