well that's kind of my point why should Tac's be limited to only escorts or an excelsior when ENG & SCI officers can fly any tier 5 ship with some minor trade offs Tac's cant do that with out making big trade offs IMO

I think the star cruiser is the closest your going to see to what you want.

I has a Leui. slot and a ensign slot

I normally use one for Tractor beam and Jam sensors, the ensign slot holds a science team 1.

With this set up I can stop a ship from firing, hold a ship, and do a quick heal of my corvalent shields when there half str. Works well with borg parts.

If your looking for science combat cruiser I would also go with a Nebula I bought one and flew it around for 6 month before I started missing my old Star Cruiser.

They aren't really all that limited. Sci, Eng and Tac Captains pick one of the 3 ship classes just like anyone else. What exactly is the combination you are looking for? Am I correct in assuming you want a Cruiser with a Commander Tactical slot and Lt. Commander Engineer? That, to me, sounds like an Escort's job.

The Commander slot should, as far as I can tell, determines the class of the ship. This makes sense to me because more fire power is supposed to be offset by lower hull and shielding (among other differences).

If you start putting Commander level Tactical skills on a Cruiser's hull that's going to require a serious down side to compensate.

sovereigns with commander tactical, star cruisers with commander science, fleet escorts with commander engineering, etc. retrofits like the galaxy can keep the native commander engineering, but ships like that should have a tlcom in a different profession. not only would it be funner, it would be more accurate to what the ships are capable of.
I agree 90% I would keep retrofits the same.

I think the T5 stock ships with this type of change would become much more interesting to players of the profession that those ships have a slant towards because they can make use of the skills they can train officers at LCDR and CDR. Players would have five really viable options instead of the normal three or the choice to play outside their profession.

It would take the stock ships out of their bland pigeonholes and give them a little more varied, interesting, and useful focus. Right now they seem more like what most people use while they are waiting to get a retrofit.

Why can't Cryptic make the fighting fair for feds? Klingon cruiser can fly circles are fed cruisers and have superior firepwer. Why can't you guys let fed cruisesr have cannons that face rear because that wear we get attcked all the time. You let klingons cruisers have all the abilities an escort have plus the added hull. Why can't you fix the fed ships to where we can defend against highly manuverable ships?

I wan to be able to get the upper hand on them instead of running and trying to repair my ship.

Klink cruisers have slightly better turning and can equip cannons. That is far from having all of the abilities of an escort. Beams are the way to go with a cruiser anyway.

Feds have the best selection of tanky and/or DPS cruisers in the game.

Either those Klingons were cheatingby using moded computer codes, or they really had an advantage against my team of Fed ships. I got my but kicked by Klingon Vorcha, and Neh'Var class cruisers that literally flew cirlcles around me while penitrating my shields and cutting through my hull like butter. I tried every defense i could by changing up engineering buffs , consoles, and nothing worked. Their weapons are superior and their engines are way faster. If the Enterprise E could have rear facing cannons on "Nemesis", why can't fed cruisers in this game? Cannons take down shields and hull a lot faster than beams. I tested this my self. Klinks always use rapid firing cannons to attack you in the rear where Fed cruisers can't arm cannons.

Or their team was better than your team.

Klingon cruisers can't equip cannons aft.
But they can equip turrets there, just like the feds. Then add some cannon rapid fire or scatter volley skill and you are done, same stuff on both sides.
