# 1 Need advice for TAC BO skills
06-13-2011, 03:01 PM
I just hit Commander and picked up my Heavy Escort. Iím planning to have two Dual Heavy Cannons and one torpedo up front with at least one turret in the back plus either a torpedo or another turret. Iím thinking for now I will go with Disruptors and Quantum torpedoes since those are the only skills available at my rank. I may respec to something else at Captain.

Iím looking for some advice on BO skills. I mostly PVE which I know, you canít really lose no matter what your set up is but Iím planning for the future and I would still like to be as effective as possible.

Right now, I have a Lt Cm station and an Ensign station. I can train Rapid Fire III but that would be a Commander skill which I donít have available at this tier. I could train High Yield III for my Lt Commander skill but since Iím not using beam weapons that doesnít leave much for the two ensign skill choices ( I currently have HY I at rank 9).

Here are the set ups Iím considering but Iím really open to suggestions:

Option 1
1. Tactical Team I / Rapid Fire II / High Yield III
2. Torpedo Spread I

Option 2
1. Tactical Team I / Scatter Volley / Rapid Fire II
2. High Yield I

I donít imagine Torpedo Spread being useful very often and Iím not sure how much of a difference HY I vs. HY III would make. Iím not sure about Scatter Volley either. I looked at the various Attack Patterns but itís hard to tell how good they are from the descriptions.

Any advice on BO skills and/or weapon set up would be appreciated.

One more question... I just noticed that BO skills like High Yield Torps do not work with the Harh'pang Torpedos but I'm still using them because the damage is much higher than other torps plus they have the added damage. Would High Yield Quantum torps be even higher?

I would go
- Tac team I, Rapid Fire I, Rapid fire II OR Tac team I, Attack pattern beta I, Rapid fire II
- HYT 1 (or another copy of Tac Team I)

If you plan to keep the harpengs (which are not affected by HYT at all)

Ensign - tac team 1
Lt Com - tac team 1, CRF 1, HYT 3

You will always gain more points to retrain your officers later so don't worry to much. It won't bind you up at all.

Why would you want a copy of an ability? (i.e. having 2 ensigns each with Tac Team I)

So you can have more up time on the skill. In PvP for example Tac team is very useful and in a raptor or defiant you have alot of tac slots to use.

Most skills have a specific cooldown (such as Cannon Rapid Fire being 30 seconds) with a shared cooldown (15 seconds for cannon skills)... so, you can, for instance, have your cannons boosted every 15 seconds instead of every 30.

I know this is a couple months old, but it had just the information I was looking for trying to setup my next rank of officers.

Just hit Captain and I was wanting to upgrade HY1 to HY3 on one of my tac officers, but couldn't figure out what to replace HY1 with at the start. There are tons of beam skill options, targeting subsystems and so on, but not a lot for just a cannon/torpedo setup, which seems the most efficient with a Tac captain flying an escort.

So I could go with 2 Tac Teams, or 2 HYT or 2 Cannon Rapid Fires and have those powers up more? Good to know, and I didn't want to spend the merits training just to test it out.

drop the torpedos and just go with a full energy weapon ship. I've been doing that for a while now and it works like a charm.

i'd go for tactical team 1 x2, cannon rapid fire 1 and 2, attack pattern beta x2, or one attack pattern omega and one attack pattern beta, both are great.
