Yeah, this sucks. none of my toons will ever do the raids to aquire the gear. If I'm in an instance for over 10 minutes, i get disconnected.on my next load screen, so i cannot finish one. Lame.

Can you imagine the outcry from the RP/PvE crowd?

Because sometimes I do. I think the Aegis and Borg set have considerably constrained or choices at endgame. You basically need one of the sets, because they give valuable bonuses.
On the positive side, they might be responsible for a kind of "balance" between ship types, as ships like Escorts or BoPs have now ways to boost their survivaiblity with Borg mods or the Aegis defense mods.

But I also feel that I can't do well without the sets. I'd be missing out these powers. So I can't pick a particular Deflector, as, i's not part of an item set.

I know some people still use the Mark X [CAP]x3 Covariants. Maybe they are really still competitiveand are worth losing some buffs. But I am not convinced.

Sometimes I wish that all those special items - sets, tractor beam mines, hargh'Pengs and the like would simply not available in PvP. There would be more choices, and a lot of sources for unbalanced items would also be removed.

How do you feel? All nonsense? At least the sets are item worth pondering about, unlike the regular gear? The special items give us more variety and ensure that the game doesn't get stale? some stuff was good, some stuff bad?
Well, you can mix and match stuff, like you can use Covariant cap x3 or any other normal shield and still have the bonusses, but yeh that requires you to have your Engines/Deflector and Console borg equipped :p

Honestly I dont think that any normal Shield is of any good. Id say either go Borg for regen, or Aegis with Capacity. So you can mix and match bonuses with both of them.

Id like to see some new sets in game with bonuses, so that you can tweak your build even more then you can now. And i dont mean like the bonusses from breen because they cannot really compete (at least not with borg)

Ya'll got it wrong I tells ya. The breen set is the best.

I seriously wonder, how can pve stuff make pvp so boring and noone cares but the moment anything effects pve from a pvp item... oh wait there's never been a pvp only item has there?

No, because the PvE people would complain that they are forced into a gameplay they do not enjoy.

What i find odd is the fact that with the introduction of these special sets (Aegis,Assimilated Borg and later the Breen Set) Cryptic have practically canceled out every other blue/purple engine or shield because none is as potent as those. There is simply no point in acquiring any other type of rare gear with perhaps the only exeption being the deflector in case of a certain skill like e.g Target Subsystem X with highest Sen/Sena tachyon deflector.Whats the point in having some purple item when it looks pale in comparison to the respective set gear? Its a shame that this has reduced the number of available choices or even the will to test various set ups. These sets have "monopolized" end game gear choices for PvE as well as PvP gameplay.

Agreed, the sets ruined a lot of the fun of item shopping & shipbuilding.

My arguement would be that there allready were very little choices before the addition of the sets..

The defacto PvP shield was a Covariant, with as many [Cap] mods as possible

The defactor PvP engine was a Hyperimpulse with either [Spd] or [Turn] mods

Not a whole lot of things to choose from.

It's not just that, they also went a long way to creating the "zombie ships" everyone complains about. Healing is powerful too, but healing has been powerful for a long time. It used to be even more powerful than it is now, but the thing that changed is that ships are passively much tougher.

Come to think, while it's not a set, the +35% shield console is bad for the game for similar reasons.

I kinda give you Covariants. Though I think with the recent changes to shields, Regeneratives and Covariants became more competitive again.

At least with Impulse Engines, you had a few choices. And i suspect that some might have underrated [AUX] as well. But I think the engine types need a similar change as the shields received. (An idea for that is in the Comprehensive Suggestion thread from Sivar).

And at least Deflectors had plenty of options for players. Now I can either take the Aegis Graviton Array or the Assimilated Graviton Array. Meh.
