I may be different to many folks here but I would rather play the likes of Mario brothers on the Wii with its cartoony graphics than the likes of Alien v's Predator with unlimited numbers of polygons and incredible detail. It would scare me and hopefully any other sane person witless.

Some things would be far too scary and in my opinion avoided at all costs.
Its called 'desensitization'. The more scary or repulsive stuff you see, the less scary and repulsive it becomes.

You don't want incredible detail? How about this game, would it not be cool to have the ships and stuff look as good as in the movies?

Errr, you don't exactly want to do that with monsters though. Fear gives you a good adrenaline rush. If you suddenly have to run for your life but aren't afraid, you might not make it...

That look a ways off, but I think Cryptic could do so much more if they used the Unreal Engine on STO.

Depends. Do you want to be able to think, or just react automatically. I think if we ever encounter other intelligent beings, we want full mental faculties rather than "OMG KILL IT!"

It's far more likely though to encounter a bear in the woods.

The non-desensitized flight or fight response will likely get you killed with a bear. Running = dead; fighting while scared witless = dead. With a bear, you want to be desensitized as it lets you retain clearness of thought. FoF is an archaic hold over from our non intelligent ancestors. Humans are weak, but very, very intelligent. If we can't use our intelligence against a physically superior threat, we're dead.

So you're suggesting that one challenge the bear to a battle of wits?

Point taken though, the bear was a bad example.

Is it not possible to have a website that is not 10% content, 90% ads?
