# 1 Engineer now weak on ground
08-24-2011, 03:43 PM
My engineer used to be my strongest toon and now he is the weakest.
He is also my oldest toon and i have not played him in awhile so I tried to play THE CURE today and it was almost impossible, i wasn't the only engineer having truble either.
It was the first time since season 4 patch that I had tried any Borg team mission, so i was wondering if anyone has figured out a new set up that works for ground or is it just broken and we are waiting for them to fix it.
He does ok in other ground combat but the other engineer and I where the first to die, always, no amount of buffing or tribbles seemed to help, I have played the cure a few times before and didn't have this much truble, it was easier before and that was when i didn't know what to do.

So any engineers having problems or anyone who knows any solutions please post here.

Not to ask a stupid question but you were using your remodulator with the character against the borg?

I find for my Engineer to be effective, he needs to make good use of strategy and equipment.

In most STFs, people run and gun and that does not work to the engineers advantage. However, the engineer shines in areas where they may be more on their own (Khit in the transport room). Being in engineer in this part of the STF makes it a breeze, as you can distract the borg with turrets and pods while you run to extend the shields.

Engineers need to be battle field tacticians; which is hard given that bridge officers are dumb as sin.

Shield capacity and hit points got reduced for everybody and weapons damage got increased for everybody, not only engineers. Since Season 4 every character class can go down quickly under direct fire.

This may sound mean, be sure it is not meant that way but maybe the others were just smart enough to take cover in critical moments.

yes, it is difficult, as turrets and drones now explode after being hit only a few times

Engineer powers and abilities on the ground are just not as effective as they used to be, to the point of being feeble. My Sci toon can take more hits and last longer in a ground battle

I am quite shocked by the idea the eng is weak.

I used to be quite sci oriented and then they buffed tac and boom ! the grenades !

But now I found a team that never ever dies. The sci dies cos it heals (heals = taunts in this game with the added effect that they heal for a teeny tiny pathetically small bit). My tac blows things up and buffs the damage.

Then I have me and 2 more eng. The amount of fabtrications is impressive and the enemies drop like flies. I dont have to plan many combats now with that lot.

In group play I have my stuff to build and it does its job nicely and I stay alive and take some pot shots too !

I guess its down to how a person gets on with a class.

I am going to disagree that Engineers are week on the ground as my Engineer Main Character is still the best for me to use, you just need to adjust your tactics a little bit, since season 4 I have been using my Cover shield a lot and now realise how useful it actually is when combined with a Medical generator.

As for a little comparison I would rate my Sci second as she can either keep herself and others alive or do awesome debuffs, and I would rate my Tac last he can dish out the damage but has the hardest time staying alive.

So as others have said it's all down to play style and how you handle a class, though some times I do miss shield tanking the Borg on the ground during The Cure as I did feel like a bad ***.

I never leave the ship without one.

Whatever personal shield your boff has change it to Regens. This will make him more survivable instantly. use blues or purples with as much regen as poss.

Secondly cover shield is the new must have power for Eng. It will save your life.

Health and shield generators are also highlt recommended for survivability issues

Hope that helps.

I've got my engineer set up with a bunker fab kit. Between cover shield, shield/med gens and the force field dome I can keep a team in good shape so long as they are willing to fight from a fixed position. The Phaser turret is little more than a distraction to Borg b/c they adapt to it and it can't cycle frequencies.

I started a tac toon on Q weekend and have been playing it a lot lately... I see the appeal. Focus on dealing damage instead of staying alive... I think the whole game is set up more for tacs flying escorts. I can get around easier in War Zones, get more kills in fleet actions and do more damage in STFs. Once I get my tac to VA I don't know if I'll play my Eng at all.
