Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but any chance we will see the Cheyenne class get corrected, either by enlarging the Saucer, or shrinking the secondary hull and Nacelles to bring the ship to proper proportions?
in it it mentioned what the original model was built out of, basically 2 of the galaxies lower domes stacked on top of each other. i'd love for them to rebuild the Cheyenne out of the awesome galaxy model in game the same way, but add in the sensor arrays and deflector details too. it seems like each of those 4 engines is like the galaxies engines split in half and re packaged, so with 4 of them the Cheyenne should have more then enough warp capacity for its size. it should be a very powerful ship with such large phaser arrays too. if the Cheyenne was built with the same quality as some of the others, it would be quite impressive.
Honestly, I think that sketch is disproportional. The artist says himself it is "rough", and the engines on the actual model appear to be much further out, even though the perspective could make that an illusion. This pic seems to be much closer to the in game model, when it comes to saucer size.
Personally, though, I much prefer the in game model. One thing to keep in mind is that the canon model was thrown together for a long shot of the ship, in which it has been damaged in battle. It is not meant to be precise, as it was only going to be seen from a distance. The original model had no deflector dish, and no shuttle bay. (unless it was in the Galaxy-based "neck" construct) The STO version adds a lot of details that would be needed for a "real" starship, to the underside of the saucer, which had never been intended to be seen.
In addition, I like the look of the "wings" a lot more, in that they are swept back, instead of curving forward. Again, the wings were probably just crafted out of scrap and not meant to be very detailed. It's also possible that the original design of prior to 2366 was superceded by a later "refit" that straightened the wings. (Or maybe the Ahwahnee was just the one with the different wings, minor variations of ships within a class are not unheard of)
I have no problems with the saucer design and added detail (save for maybe the 3rd impulse engine, which should be central on the neck(s) ) , but the Nacelles are way too big (long) and are spaced too wide. They set inbound of the saucer's edge on the Studio Ship, not evenly, as they do on the Cryptic ship.
