And yet it doesn't flat out prohibit non-Star Trek topics in its description. Seems more a preemptive strike against anything that threatens them i.e. a certain Star Wars MMO waiting in the wings.
So they just noticed now? ...I really havent changed it since the game's launch.
I think it has more to do with my confessed excitement about that other new mmo comming out. cause I didn't get the warning till after I made few comments about it.
He didnt say it was against the "rules". However, the description of 10 forward is:
"Introduce yourself, share fan art, fan fiction, role play, and make friends here! Romulan Ale is still prohibited."
It says nothing about non-Trek topics. It also doesnt say you cant talk about non Trek topics. But Stormshade just did. So now you know. Whether you agree with that or not is beside the point.
No its not beside the point. The admin enforces the rules that are in place, not make new ones up that no one knew we to be enforced. There isn't even an official POST by the admins concerning this!
i can see "where" its coming from, from their pov. ive been in other gameforums "that" have been "if its not about this game then post is deleted and you get dinged" but i also havent seen anything to suggest "rule changes" to being "that restrictive" on these forums. so i'm gonna watch this from a distance and munch on some popcorn.
Hey StormShade, could you show me where exactly it says we can't talk about anything but STO in the forum rules? I'm having trouble trying to sort thru the legalese mumbo jumbo.
I understand: "•Posting of off-topic comments, including but not limited to comments or discussions of a religious, or political nature."
But isn't Ten Forward the "Off-Topic" forum thread?
If there was such a rule, as a a "paying customer"* I would highly suggest to revamp that rule to allow all kinds of off-topic discussions in 10 Forward. If this is supposed to mimic the canon 10-forward, I am pretty sure that people told about their holodeck and non Starfleet experiences a lot there.
And I want to talk about non Startrek topics with players of this game. I see it as part of the community building process. So we disagree about PvP vs PvE? But at least we can agree that the latest Sherlock Holmes movie was awesome.
If it's just a particularly harsh interpretation of the rules - reinterpret things.
What is generally not okay is leading a thread off topic. But talking about non Startrek Online topics should not be off-limits. I can see political and (real world) religious discussions disallowed, those often lead to very heated and fundamental debates. But non Startrek IP topics in general - definitely not.
And if this is a reaction to the "fear" of TOR it's childish and ridicilous. And if it isn't, you won't shake of the feeling that it is about that anyway.
*(I almost wrote "paying costumer, which is also kinda true...")
When Wishstone started up as our Mod, she did some of the same stuff, nowe that she's gone and Stormshade is here, it looks like we have to break in a new Dev to how things work here in Ten-Forward. I did send both him and dstahl emails with my "concerns" on what was going on in here, not sure if I should actually expect anything though. and don't worry, I kept my emails professional and respectful.

Well, I would imagine that's because most of them are hate filled and profane diatribes, that's why I kept mine civil, so that maybe I could get some attention and change of their POV on this topic.
