With STO going FTP and more and more ships and skins getting added to pay for the game can/will we see a change to how we skill into ships?

What i mean is i allready brought all the ships and skins, but im hesitant to buy anymore....why?
Well ive used real world money to buy these yet i have to respec to fly them with effect, especially end game, i have ships and skins sitting around coz i dont wna tto fork out more and more to respec to fly a ship i brought for awhile.

Perhaps just make ships Escorts,Cruisers and Science , at least that cuts out the silly skill catergories at end game and helps us to fly ships we brought.

Alternatively how about a new skill when they raise the cap to Fleet Admiral, maybe if you max it out you can fly any class without penalty, anything so we can fly our ships we paid for, especially with so many coming to the store, they would sell alot more too. If they did this id continue to buy every ship released as im a ship freak lol.

Seconded. I came back and finished leveling to VA, and found out I had respecs sitting around (if they were there in '09, I didn't realize it). I first fixed my SP, cause honestly, they were borked. After that though, I saw all of these pretty ships I wanted to try, and since I had the respecs lying around, I swapped around for a bit. Tried out Science vessels, then Escorts. I loved the MVAE a lot, but eventually decided I wanted to go back to my home, cruisers. But now which ones should I choose!? Star Cruisers, Assault/Dreadnought, or Excelsior/Galaxy-R?

Well, I eventually had to buy a respec token to get it all figured out, but now I'm stuck with Assault/Dreads. Hope I never want to go back to Excelsior/R, for my wallet's sake.

The skill tree revamp will do away with all the individual ship skills as per this months ask Cryptic.

The skill tree revamp has to actually happen first. And will contain serious game breaking bugs.

Is that pertaining to the Starship Captain abilities, or are they changing other things as well? What's going to be game-breaking? Man I need to work on my info sources some, you guys always seem to have some parcel of information I haven't seen yet...

The "bugs" thing is just them being pessimistic. Basically, the ground combat revamp that we got at the start of Season 4 had all sorts of bugs with it (a few of which still have not been fixed), so superchum was predicting that something similar will happen with the skill revamp.

Definitely looking forward to the ship classes being more consolidated. Cruiser, Science and Escort should be the only 3 options all the way across. Having them branch out so much towards the end only results in lots of respecs if you want to try different ships. I started at VA in an Excelsior-R, then spent some time in an MVAM and just last week switched to a Dreadnought. So that's 2 respec tokens used. If the Dread doesn't work out I'm considering trying the Galaxy-R, which would use another token.
