# 1 leveling science?

I've got a science captain, currently lieutenant commander 2. I'm trying to go full science but the space combat is slow because I just don't have that many skills yet. is this normal for lowbie science characters or should I change my playstyle with this? I've got the rhode island refit, and my LT sci boffs are doing tachyon beam II and FBP I at their command stations. there's still no way for my to use my tac boff for beam FAW or anything like that yet.
should I be worrying about stuff like this? or just deal with it til I'm captain and have a decently sized bag'o'tricks?

What BO skills you use, is dependant on what class of ship and tier of ship you have.

At Lt Cmr on a sci ship your boffs can use the following level of skills, ensign engineer, ensign tac, ensign science, and lt. science.

If you get a escort ship though it'll be the tac BO's that are ensign and Lt instead of Science ones, and the same again for engineers in a cruiser.

Fly an escort instead. SV flies like a cruiser at that level anyways, so just get an escort, get cannon rapid fire, and kill things quicker.

I kept my Sci in a Cruiser most ofher way to VA. I did try the T4 Intrepid but it just wasn't as good in my opinion.

The Rhode Island is the best ship for your level. Here's a generic build for it:

Eng Ens: Emergency Power to Shields I
Sci LT 1: Hazard Emitters I, Transfer Shield Strength II
Sci LT 2: Tachyon Beam I, Feedback Pulse I
Tac Ens: Beam: Fire At Will I

Forward weapons: 1 beam array, 1 torpedo (any flavor)
Deflector: Polarized Parabolic Deflector Mk IV (from Cold Call)
Engines: Supercooled Combat Impulse Engine Mk IV (from Cold Case)
Shield: Dielectric Oscillation Resilient Shields Mk IV (from Cold Storage)
Aft weapons: 1 beam array, 1 torpedo (any flavor)

Eng Console 1: Photonic Displacement Console
Eng Console 2: EPS Flow Regulator Mk IV
Sci Console 1: Induction Stabilizer Mk IV
Sci Console 2: Induction Stabilizer MK IV
Tac Console: Directed Energy Distribution Manifold Mk IV

Forward weapons: 1 dual phaser beam bank, 1 qtorp launcher
Deflector: Polarized Parabolic Deflector Mk IV (from Cold Call)*
Engines: Supercooled Combat Impulse Engine Mk IV (from Cold Case)*
Shield: Dielectric Oscillation Resilient Shields Mk IV (from Cold Storage)*
Aft weapons: 2 phaser beam array

*miscellaneous mark II and IV equipment. I'll do these breen missions right away.

Eng Console 1: Universal Photonic Displacer(empty right now, not in space yet)
Eng Console 2: EPS Flow Regulator Mk IV(maybe the Enhanced Plasma Manifold from oberth)
Sci Console 1: Induction Stabilizer Mk IV
Sci Console 2: Induction Stabilizer MK IV
Tac Console: Directed Energy Distribution Manifold Mk IV
