And no one agrees! So, as a newbi tactical who is used to flying engineer, I am curious.

Friend #1 says: fly a single, a dual, and a dual heavy to always have the shields being pelted with shots

Friend #2 says: run three dual heavies on the front to maximize burst damage

Friend 3 says: fly three dual non heavy cannons to minimize misses and maximize procs.

I am used to beams and cruisers. I tried all three and killed everything pretty quick. I am in a defiant. rapid III, HYT III, scatter 1, torp spread I. So I am curious as to what you all use and why.

I have found lots of threads but none concerning a single, dual and dual heavy. Just curious.

Thanks!

What most people fail to understand, is that "what works best" in fact depends very much on your gamestyle.

Me for example... I run a Fleet Escort with 3x DHC + Quantum up front with 3x turrets rear, because I am specced into maximum damage, in head on attacks. That paired with a somewhat low manuverability (for escorts) and skills that enhance my shields, hull and DPS.
That is what matches my gamestyle, and a philosophy that says: "it can't hurt you if it is dead".

Another person from my fleet however is using a Prometheus with regular Phaser Beams, and lots of hull heals (hazard emitters), and has a High manuverability.

It all comes down to playstyle.

I try to get the kill in the first pass but with a risk to get my butt kicked, he tries to get it over time, but with less risk.

So it is all about figuring out what works for you. Your freinds can claim their setup to be the best all they want.. it's both true, and false at the same time.

Yeah my science and bridge officer abilities focus on healing of shields and hull. I am trying to get better at the "dash and bash" but I amfighting mostly at 1/4 impulse with most of my power in shields and weapons.

Consider testing a Fleet Escort.

The Fleet Escorts has an extra Ensign Eng slot and Eng Console slot. It will raise your surviveability to a high degree (option to add an extra Eng Team or EPtS) and lets you boost shields, allowing you to allocate more power into your engines.

Escorts are small fragile beings, that need their shields up.

Indeed. I will look into that at Vice Admiral. Right now, I am a captain and still trying to figure out this cannon thing.

Run DHCs only; the other cannons are terrible. The math has been beaten to death on this.

Of course, in PvE it doesn't matter.

Honestly, It totally depends on your play and what YOU like. If you are going run 1 pass apha's, then the dc DHC may be your cup of tea.

If you have a harder time with maintaining faces with a grab the belt approach, run a single cannon.

If you are very stratigic with shield facings and defense, you may want to run a dc, DHC, dbb, with a ba and turret in the rear; just make sure you're spec'ed accordingly to maximize damage.

Where does it say in his original post this has ANYTHING to do with PvP. Why do you people always have to hijack every damn thread and make it about PvP?

If your statement is not about PvP then its pretty narrow minded. Single Cannons in PvE are good for non twitch people who would like to have more "guns on target" time and less worring about trying get into the 45 degree sweet spot. My Sci with 1 torp, 2 cannons , 3 turrets kills just fine thank you.
