So last night I grabbed the venture ship pack. I decided to skin my Gal-X with it. I tossed on the Anti-Matter Spread. And then a thought occured to me, why not try something new? How about changing the game up. I tossed on some Phaser Turrets. Two up front with a pair of Dual Heavies and Harpeng torp and four in the back. Aegis set and a standard loadout of devices and the like.
I tested it out in an RA. It was AWESOME fun! Msgs asking me why on earth would I do that were normal. All I know is I had a lot of fun doing it. I know being an engineer with turrets isn't the greatest practical idea. But to all the nay sayers out there. It was FUN to do and I'll be keeping my dreadnaught like that.
Anyone else try something unorthodox and enjoy it? Or tried something and fialed but still had fun?
I've been trying a Nebula Retrofit with 2 Photon Torps and a Tetryon Beam Array fore and aft. By itself its only so so... But in Fleet actions (where someone else can take down the target shields...) it starts to shine. And when a shield does goes down, I can toss a Borg tractor beam combined with a full power Gravity Well 3 to get the target to hold still while I toss a High Yield Photon swarm down the shield hole...
I have a carrier running all turrets except 1 beam in the back to target subsystems. Works a little better than a cruiser because it has a LtCmdr tac slot for 2 copies of rapid fire. Not a lot of DPS, but the procs are amazing.
EDIT: oops. forgot this was Federation Gameplay sub-forum. nvm.
