Just sat down with the timeline, the galaxy map and what might be nice...
So here is an idea for the mission chain!
Mission Chain Idea
Opens in a klingon engagement early in the war, you're a fresh warrior
Win the battle for Gila IV (space and ground)
Starting Mission Chain
Engagments vs Gorn and Nausicaans
Escort Worf back to Klingon space
Reveal the Undie infiltrator Councilor Konjah of the High Council (ground)
Supporting the Lethean mercenaries
Support an Attack on U.S.S Pike (space, fighters only)
Take out the planet's power net work (ground)
End of Gorn War - Assaulting the Palace (ground supported by NPCs)
Ends in Cutscene reveals Undine Infiltation
Midrange Mission chain
Invasion of Hromi and Mempa
Korvat (space and ground)
The other systems are 'combat patrols'
Support negoationins between Gorn and Nausicaans (ground)
Fleet Action Assault on Sherman's Planet (space only)
Invasion of the Arachins and Donatu Sector
Sabotaging the peace talks (ground)
Ghomba system - Small House vs House pvp zones Martok vs Duras (space and ground)
Final Carrier Mission chain
Attack on Cestus III, several preliminary support missions related to this campagin.
Ends with Fleet Action on taking Starbase 24. (Space and Gound)
Completing this mission allows you to become Commander 1 and access to main game areas
Just a quick thought...
Why not start the KDF new recruits on ground missions only for a while? After all, Klingons need to earn everything through their actions, so surely they'd have to prove themselves as capable ground warriors before they even get a fighter craft?
One problem with this idea. It's centered around being a klingon on a KDF carrier fighting the Gorn-Klingon War.
What if a player rolls a Gorn or Nausican? OK, you could do an equivalent where you play a gorn / nausican pilot going against the KDF, but you run into the problem of having to duplicate everything since you'd need Gorn equivalents of all the missions and carrier innards / social area.
Not trying to be a nay sayer - in fact I LOVE this idea, but it is something to consider.
Actually when I first heard of STO I originally imagined you'd do something like this - starting off with a runabout and working your way up to commanding a "real" ship. This is really how you should start off the game.
Sounds nice but I'm more annoyed that newbies get a level 25 for nothing while people who maxed out there rank don't get anything back for it, were forced to grind while Cryptic still needs to get more missions out there.
I'm surprised people still believe new Klingons begin at level 25, when otherwise has been stated.

The actual starting level has not been locked down 100% yet.
They are unlocked at level 25! They will actually be more around lvl 18-19ish or similar, I believe Dsthal stated this during an interview.
