I believe each torp has it's own damage and crit chance, but I may be wrong on that; I remember talk way back when of HYT 2 actually being a "trap", with HYT 1 actually having a better chance of crits or something.

Beam Overload doesn't hit 3 to 9 targets at once (increasing the chance to crit by a factor of 3 to 9), so I think it's okay.

Each hit is calculated separately. I think you can also see this pretty good at the damage floaters - each torp gets its own, just like with a energy weapon cycle.

I wouldn't call it a trap, but HYT1 might perform better than expected, as its the only HY version where the individual torpedoes actually have a net gain in damage compared to the single regular torp. This also means that critical hits are nastier.

I don't feel like doing the math for calculating the average damage of a weapon taking its critical hit probability and critical hit severity right now, but basically - larger critical hits can skew the average damage up higher, and thus they can make a notable difference. (Simplified: If you double your critical hit chance but half the damage you inflict on a crit, you have not just not improved your DPS at all - you also reduced your spike potential.)

I've used Overload III in the past, never seen it do that kind of damage... so I can only assume that was the 1-in-a-million lucky shot.

There really shouldn't be any abilities that can grant a one shot kill in this game... and the increasing number of them is going to lead to sniping. I really don't want what's left of PvP to turn into matches of who can hit who with the superweapon first. It's bad enough we've got SS and PSW to deal with... but now we get to worry about escorts decloaking on our tails and hitting with 2 TS III back to back b/c the torp cooldown is gone. The game's not a lot of fun when you have zero chance of fighting back.

There's loads of combos/chains that can lead to one-shot/pass pops. I myself have popped tons of Escorts with my trusty Sensor Scan/Delta/FBP combo.

PSW + BO3 + a few DHCs volleys = pop. Iceroid is a goofy goober and always instapops me with his 3x DHC + Torp passes.

TS is now just one of those abilities that can pop you very fast. I do, however, fully agree that it's damage calculation mechanic needs some tweaking. That or HY needs a "buff" where it uses the same calculation (full damage of the entire strike on the first torp, the extras being purely visual).

Well, the PvE'ers are complaining now, so this might just get fixed.

Torp Spreading Borg to the rescue!

We have hope, and I thank the PvE community for voicing out their opinion, because that's the only one cryptic listens to

It's much less fun with no chance of killing anything either.

And PSW is another one that needs work, as there is no way to respond to it. A well balanced game should be like a chess match... for every move there is a counter move, for every attack an appropriate defense... you just have to be intelligent enough to use it. Killing another player shouldn't be as easy as hitting 2 or 3 buttons and watching them go kaboom.

Yes, but these have to be running *before* you get hit with it. You can't just fly around with them running all the time.

With all the other defensive powers I can think of you activate them *after* you get attacked. Tractor beam is countered by Polarize, 'peng radiation is countered by Hazard, Scramble is countered by Sci Team, CRF is countered by RSP, etc. PSW is the only attack I know of where the target has to counter it *before* it strikes.
