# 1 BOff questions
09-22-2011, 11:27 PM
Hi there!

I just hit the Lower Admiral rank and I'm wondering whether I'm doing anything wrong because... in fact... I have never switched my Bridge Officers up to now! I.e.: Same faces all of the time! Of course I have switched their abilities several times via captain training and bridge officer trainer's training, but the people are the same. So my questions:

1. Is this ok/normal to stay at the same crew for all the time?
In my opinion it even makes less sense to change the BOffs when advancing in the game, because I would lose now many trained points (4x9 per BOff)

2. Is there a list of abilities around which can NOT be trained by a bridge officer trainer but can only be obtained by rare/very rare BOffs?

3. Which of those rare abilities would you recommend to use for my tactical BOffs (being a tactical captain leading a Fleet Escort ship)?

Thanks!

Yooooooo

Some nice questions and even better answers.

1 Is it Ok to keep the same crew all the time? Well yes there are no issues with keeping the same officers the whole way through levelling up, along as you have officers commissioned to man all the stations on your ship. However at VA you may want to have a few additional officers for having different Bridge officer setups on your ship. I myself often keep the first few officers you get when starting a new character.

2 Yes there are many abilities that can be obtained only from rare or very rare officers here is a quick list of some of the useful powers.

Tactical
Beam Overload 3
Canon Scatter Volley 3
Attack Pattern Delta 3
And level 3 versions of the target subsystems ability

Engineering
Auxiliary power to structural integrity field 3
Boarding party 3
Reverse Shield Polarity 3
Aceton Field 3

Science
Energy Siphon 3
Tractor Beam Repulse 3
Tykenís Rift 3
Transfer Sheild Strength 3
Viral Matrix 3

3 As a tactical captain in a fleet escort skills that your captain can train such as Cannon rapid fire 3 will be very useful. But in terms of the abilities you may want to acquire from a Boff there is one that stands out the most. Beam overload 3 is a great skill and provides a huge damage potential. The only down side is that I am sure it will cost over 2 million energy credits to purchase one of these officers from the exchange!

Thanks!

Is there a fast way to search for a bridge officer having a specific skill on the exchange or do I have to browse through all those candidates?

You have to browse.

Any hints how I could find more easly a BOff having Beam Array: Overload III on the Exchange? Is there perhaps a certain species who is more likely to have that ability than others?

Not sure if certain species have a higher incidence of that skill over others. A quick(er) way is to basically start with the most expensive and work backwards. BO III isn't going to be cheap. Of course, I got my copy of BO III for 20k way back in the day, so sorting through the lists does pay off every now and then...

Also, if your search returns 400 results it's a safe bet it returned more and your only seeing 400. In that case search by species separately (so Human Tactical, for example).

Slightly off topic, but you should be aware of traits as well. While many apply to ground only effecient is very usefull in space for power level boost of your ship's systems. For ground team Superior traits which enhance the Boff skills you're using are nice little boost.

You can search by rarity too. BO3 is a LtCmdr skill. It is therefore usually found on rare (blue) Boffs. Typically, level 3 LtCmdr skills are found on blue Boff, and level commander skills are found on purple Boffs (at least that is how it used to be. Been a while since I've bought a Boff off the exchange). Generally, they are not cheap, so for quicker searches, start from the end of the list, and go backwards.

I usually keep my officers' names and appearance but I replace them as I get new officers. When I get a new officer that's blue or purple and is also the same sex and species as one of my original Boffs I head to a tailor and go the first customize screen for the original and Save. Then I take everything off the officer, delete them, and have the new officer Join. Then when you get to customize, just click Load and find the right one if you have multiple. then change their name and now you've still got the same Boff, but it's upgraded. (replaced by an evil/genetically enhanced clone! Oh noes!)
