# 1 Carrier Advice Needed!
09-23-2011, 03:25 PM
Before we get started, I know there are tons of posts about this out there. I am, however, looking for somewhat specific advice that I have not yet been able to find EXACTLY elsewhere. If I missed it while searching, than I do apologize, I've never been good at finding things.

Alright, so I'm a somewhat experienced Fed (not premade) PvPer with a high amount of success, and I run a Fleet Escort on the Fed side. So you may not be surprised to find out, I have NO idea how to play a Carrier! So, I'm looking for quite a bit of advice, to help you help me, I'll give what I specifically need, and some info on what I use currently. These questions are about the Vo'Quv, NOT the Kar'Fi; bare in mind also, I'm a Tac captain.

First off, let me start by saying, I'm wanting to tank/support, though a DPS increase is always welcome.

1) What equipment should I use? Currently I run with:

6 Disruptor Beam Arrays
Borg Deflector
Aegis Shield
Borg Engines
2 EPS Flow Regulators & 1 Field Emitter (really need advice here specifically)
3 Induction Coils and Borg Console
2 Disruptor Induction Coils
2x Birds of Prey

2) What skills are best suited for a tanking focused build that has moderate support capabilities (as long as they don't detract from my tanking capability)? Currently my BOFFs are:

TT 1&2, FAW 3
EPTS 1&2, RSP 2
ST 1, TSS 2&3, GW 2 (I think on the Gravity well it's 2, it may be 3, I'm going on memory, I have good memory though)
HE 1&2

3) What are the most advantageous power levels? I take support and damage as equally important, but tanking capability is my priority.

4) How can I get semi-decent damage capabilities running a tank build? I barely do any damage to shields at all. On my Fleet Escort, I can tank EXTREMELY well for an Escort with a pretty offensive build -- yet I only tank slightly better with this Carrier AND I do almost no damage. I've ran into a couple Carriers who can dish and take damage fairly well, so I was wondering, how is this best accomplished?

5) Feel free to put in any extra advice I may not have covered here .

Anyways, if anyone does respond to me without being outright mean or a troll , then thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

I am also looking for a carrier build for my tac captain, just mostly for fun, since its a huge freaking ship. Just fly in and ram someone lol.

I recommend the following:-

Weapons and Equipment:-
6 Tetryon Turrets
Borg Engine and Deflector
Aegis Shield
Scorpion Fighters
To'Duj Fighters or Bird of Prey's

Consoles:-
Neutronium Alloy, Field Generator, EPS Flow Regulator - Engineering
2 Halons, 2 Astrometric Imaging Scanners - Science
Tetryon Pulse Generator, Borg Console - Tactical

Boffs:-

Tactical Team 1, Cannon Rapid Fire 1, Attack Pattern Delta 2 - Tactical
Emergancy Power to Shields 1, Reverse Shield Polarity 1, either Engineering Team 3 or Emergancy Power to Shield 3 - Engineering
Science Team 1, Hazard Emitters 2 - Lt. Science
Transfer Shield Strength 1, Transfer Shield Strength 2 or Hazard Emitters 2, Transfer Shield Strength 3 or Hazard Emitter 3, Charged Particle Burst 3 - Commander Science

Power Levels:-

Depending on your spec, I recommend planting 9's in all T3 efficiency power levels except Shield, and have your power levels diverted to shields whilst your 50% at Auxilary. By decreasing Shield power level and increasing Auxilary power level slightly, youll be able to match them around the 95ish mark. Leave Weapons and Engines with 9's in Efficiency and T4 & 5 9's for better power level performance.

As a Tactical officer, I do not recommend a Carrier. Being a Science or even an Engineering is much more preferable and I would personally go for the Raptor or Bird of Prey, however, if you wish to test the Vo'Quv with a tac using this layout, then get a friend that is able to train the powers you need here.

The jist of this build is Shield stripping/tanking. Leave your Fighters and BoP's to do the rest of blowing enemy ships up. If you have flown at best a Galaxy in STO in you'll handle the Vo'Quv turning no problem however if your used to your escort, then you will have much longer to adapt.

Based on your profession and current alts in ships, I do not recommend the Vo'Quv for your tactical KDF at least. Use a KDF Science or Engineer in it, much more support/tanking available to you via there.
