I'm not sure what the benefits of playing a Eng are in pvp.... Eng 3 team heal gives my team members a volley or too extra worth of points. This game is totally skewed to damage and broken powers. Why must everything be an extreme?

Escorts tanking, beams doing nothing against shields, sci spam, the more features that are rolled out the more crazy this become.

If the dev's are suck on the holy trinity thing... can everyone have a equally important role?

We have asked the devs and all threads directed to them has not one single dev post in it. They don't care as long as you keep spending in the c-store they will be on there marry way. there are plenty of RPers that will pay 3-4 times their usual monthly Sub fee to have all the "Cool" stuff. The RPers are doing to this game what the fanbois did to the star trek movie franchise, turning it into a flash in the pan MMO.

As an Engineer, you get the bragging rights that it takes 50 kajillion escorts focus firing your *** to just kill you. How's that for balance?

But really, why do healing classes complain they can't do damage, I don't understand. It's like a Holy Paladin or Priest complaining they can't kill anything. I would hope they aren't trying to begin with. You're right though, some powers are over the top.

As far as beams go, I've argued time and again that they are completely worthless dps wise and one of the few people that defended FAW because it actually made beams a little worthwhile. Alass, the pvp community was hell bent on the fact that FAW was pure evil, and beams are now made even more worthless than they were before. I mean, for damage you get Beam Overload and...oh wait, that's all you get. Who in their right mind would choose beams over cannons unless the ship restricted it if you are going for pure damage?

Beams have there place. I run beams on my klink and am usually in the top three in damage and kills and i run no faw or BO on my build. I do however need to be teamed with a bop or raptor doing some burst dps or I'm in for a long fight. Dps is not nearly as important with the game being the way it is right now anyway. Working around all the mitigation in the game is the key, and my build excels at it making it much easier for my burst teammates to finish off targets. The steady damage coming from 7 beams really dings shields, and the steady dps shows good numbers, but burst damage will always be necessary for a quick kill once you manage to get around everything. I'll take lots of kills over that stupid dps number shown at the end of a match any day

honestly, the rp'rs may keep this game alive for longer than we expect. and for that reason.

i plan to keep shooting at them when they enter the q's.

Beams are ok they do the job when needed, I fly a Tactical Escort Retrofit as an Engi and find, I sometimes have to switch from my cannons to an all torp and beam loadout purley based on who I am fighting. If I come up against certain fleets I know that just using cannons I will be a sitting duck but if I switch to beams I can fly round in circles not worrying about my firing arch chaining overload I and III. I do some good damage with beams... so I would not right them off just yet.

I know PvP is a lil messed up, I swore just only a week ago that I would not play PvP no more as I was sooooo sick off the sci spam and scramble....... but the Urge just got to me and I find I just can not stay away lol.

Fingers crossed that eventually PVP will eventually get sorted out.

Anyhow.... hope all is well with everyone

Engineering Team is an awesome heal. But: It alone isn't enough. Part of the responsibility here is on your team mates -they have to harden their shields with resistance buffs (2 Emergency Power to Shields can take care of that, and they should distribute their shield power regularly). As a healer, you vastly boost this with Extend Shields.

If people harden their shields regularly, Engineering Teams and Aux2Sif can be sufficient to deal with bleedthrough and the occassional damage spike that got through those shields. But the rest of your heals and support powers should be devoted to boosting shield resistance and shield healing. But you can't do it all, IME, the othe rplayers have to help themselves a little.

If you see a team mate usually has 3 active shield facings and one down, he isn't distributing shield power. Consider reslotting some powers and throwing over a Tactical Team. Or just recommend him via team chat to distribute shield power.
If your team mates just blow up to any damage spike, check if they use Emergency Power to Shields. If not, recommend it to them, and try to help with Extend Shields. (But to be honest, you might have lost that match already, unless the other side didn't notice the weak spot in your team, or has similar ones.)

The general problem in STO is that there an extreme discrepancy between buffed and unbuffed ships. That applies specifically to resistances and damage. If people focus on their resistances and have a half-way decent healer, damage alone will suddenly seem too weak, actually. But that can be fixed by a healthy dose of science CC - Scrambles to make the healers ineffective, Subnucleonic Beam to get rid of the resistances, Shockwave to disable some powers and the ability to react with power use to incoming damage.
