# 1 Two questions...
10-05-2011, 10:52 AM
I logged into STO a few minutes ago to look something up.
First for reference:
I logged in as my Tactical Captain Goliath. Heís at Va rank using a fleet escort.
He is maxed out in both beam and cannon weapon skills as well as the Antiproton skill
I have removed all of the tactical consoles to get an idea of the base numbers for the following:

Antiproton Cannon Mk XI [CrtH] [Dmg] x2
593 base damage
791 DPS

Antiproton Beam Array Mk XI [CrtH] [Dmg] x2
824 base damage
659 DPS

1) I know that single cannons have a narrower firing arc than beam arrays. I thought that cannons, even singles, would do more damage then beam arrays. Do single cannons fire more times per cycle than beam arrays? Could that be how they make up the difference? Because otherwise there is no reason to use single cannons over beam arrays, is there?

2) I looked up the stats for cannon-rapid fire 1 and I got:

567 damage
1,030 DPS

Thatís right, CRF-1 does LESS damage than a standard attack.

Someone please help me by explaining what is going on here.

Thank you

Cannons equal higher burst damage delivered in one blow (high DPS)

Beams equal higher sustained damge over time (High damage stat - lower DPS stat)

at least thats how I remember it.
