Straight from Stoked:

Quad Phaser (DMGx3)

Purple, Bound
Escort, Dreadnaught Cruiser, Lt Cruiser

No One Per Character

45' Targeting Arc
195 Phaser Damage ( 280 DPS ?) - Cant really make out the numbers from the screen

Buy varient, Remove Cannons. Disband Varient
Reclaim Varient, Remove Cannons. Disband Varient
Reclaim Varient, Remove Cannons. Disband Varient.

Put 3 Quad Cannons on any Escort you like and be able to do more DPS than Dual Heavy Cannons and faster than Dual Cannons.

Ugh...

I will not be amused if Cryptic literally decide to put super cannons on the C-store as part of a ship class. That is utterely disgusting Have-To-Pay-To-Get-Best-Gear marketing.
yes, we're getting a new defiant, all pimped out with a venture skin.

i think they said it was for escorts, like the other consoles were for sci/cruisers.

you don't HAVE to pay, even if it is on the c-store.

Aren't escorts supposed to be the highest DPS ships in the game? And, for that matter, isn't the Galaxy X an awkward enough hybrid to warrant the boost.

Also, instead of "no one per character", you suppose that reads "only one per character"?

We'll see if they're really the highest damage. Depending on how they work, energy drain could make them still do less damage than Dual Heavies. I could be wrong, but my feeling is that Cryptic themselves don't really have a good handle on how energy drain alters the DPS figures of their weapons, so it remains to be seen how the quads will actually perform.

Make them [CritH][CritD] or [Acc][CritD] blue items with no other extra bonus, and they'll be powerful enough to be "better" without being massively overkill.
If they operated like that they'd almost certainly do less damage still than Dual Heavies, since Dual Heavies are far more energy efficient. However, it probably would be a fair balance.

Cryptic are marketing a pay-for-ship that comes with a Purple Cannon that has [DMGx3] which the Al says no other weapon has and has the highest damage. That can then be slapped on any escort and is leveless.

Attaching the highest DPS weapon in game to a pay-for ship is disgusting.

The tooltip does not have the Max Per Character stat.

There are other weapons with 3 mods on them (Crit, Acc, Dmg), but no other item in the game has 3 [DMG] mods.

That's absolutely ALL that was meant by saying that these items are the highest DAMAGE in the game.

Ahw :-/
I don't like the "pay to win" but I halfway expected it.
What bothers me is that the quad cannons are an actual weapon. I hoped it would be some kind of skin or console that just gave your normal weapons a quad cannon look on a defiant class ship.
That way it would have worked with other energy types as well and not just phasers.
A tactical console with +26 on Cannon weapons and the extra ability to make all dual cannons / dual heavy cannons fire -visually not mechanically - like quads would have been great imo.
I would have paid for that.
This solution feels... well... not so good.

I agree, assuming they have a higher power demand they'd have a decent burst but after that...
It might be possible to mount three of them but the question is: will it be desirable not to mention efficient.

In addition we don't know whether they'll have a different modifier at range, just like current cannons lose lots of damage at range compared to beams, the quads might lose even more meaning they'd be even more close-combat than the others.

I hope that they are careful about releasing something better than the existing options and that the Klinks have good access to them as well. Dual Heavy Cannons are already significantly better than Dual Cannons (to the point that Dual Cannons probably need some kind of boost to either DPS or firing arc, for example) so we don't need to create another class of worthless Cannons by releasing one that head and shoulders above the field.

I don't know, in some ways, I'm not all that excited about the [DMG] mod because it's the most worthless of the existing options. However, in terms of balancing a pretty gimmick (which will appear everywhere in use by everyone) it might actually be something that resembles... balance. As always, hopefully we'll be able to get some testing in.

It is a pretty nice looking effect, after all.
