i am still sure that the top part is supposed to glow,
not the middle part, and that someone at the Visual FX department on DS9 screwed up putting the glow in the center... and then they just kept using that cgi model.
you're citing two pictures of the unlit studio model and a drawing of the changes made in Generations, not even an original design drawing from STIII, I wouldn't exactly call that proof. If you actually look at screencaps from ST III, ST VI and the various appearances of the orignal model on TNG and DS9, you can see that they don't glow, I'd post some examples but IIRC trekcore doesn't allow hotlinks, you'll have to look them up yourself. I think the top panels on the Nacelles are actually painted blue, what's probably throwing you off is that when the model was repainted for Generations, they were painted the same light blue/teal as the accent markings on the rest of the ship, which might look lit up in some lighting, if you look carefully you can see that this is the case in your last pic, the nacelle top panels are clearly the same color as those patches on the hull.
i know one way to stop all the arguments all together and compromise at the same time.
why not just add in the option for all three, we already have the options for both the side glow and one without it, so, why not give us one with the top glow only and that way we get what we all want.
by the way I've seen the studio model on display, and those top panels you guys say are just painted, guess what they both were and weren't. they were in fact actually something they could change out as the actual model had two completely different sets of nacelles, and one set, the top panels are in fact transparent and would light up it you just plugged them in. on the other set however they were simply painted, and they might have even had a third set, which may have just had the side glow for all we know, so technically we are all right.

Agreed plus since we are talking about ships nacelles, also on the sovereign class the nacelles are to low they are supposed to higher. The bottom part of the is meant to be level with the flat part of the saucer section and in nemesis it is risen which they should add in the game. Even the excelesior nacelles seem to low. Normalyl in star trek you can see the nacelles always from the front view but in sto they are hiding behind the saucer section. ITS SOO ANNOYING!
As you can see from these shots, the nacelles are only slightly above the saucer. Just enough to conform to the "rule" that buzzard collectors should not be blocked by any other part of the ship.
i think what all of these pictures, and my personal experiences shows, it that they did change the model extensively throughout the coarse of its use both during the shows and the movies.
so with this fact being the case, then one should simply assume, that this ship is one of the few cases which can have all of the differing nacelle and other parts as variants, which still conform to the screen portrayal of its intellectual property.
this means that we simply need all of the referred parts to be able to change to reflect these differences. I.E. we need them all included as customization options in the tailor eventually. and as an extra bonus, why not be able to also include the option to have both the side and top glowing panels on the nacelles, please .
The refit of the excelsior was one of my favorite ships in sto.. but i found that there are too many impulse engines on it.. and would like this looked into
the curent OUTER impulse engines are wupposed to be shuttle bays.. as in that link above the wireframe blueprints .. being impulse engines there blasting right into the nacelles and thats not good for speed or warp drive.. if im wrong please let me know.. but i would rather have 2 impulse engines and 2 shuttle bays or possible fighter wing hangers there
i thnk the excelsior would make an awesome mini carrier.. even if there were 2 flight decks that could only support 1 wing each.

1. The shuttle bay is BENEATH the inner impulse engines.
You're using random fanfiction schematics from the net as a resource.
2. Why did you have to dig up an 18 month old thread?

Yep we don't need zombies! If you want to continue a discussion of a thread that is over 30 days since the last post, please make a new thread and link to the old one
