As brought up in Mai's thread, there's some debate as to whether FAW is still "blacklisted" or not.
Do we still count it as cheese (a la Scramble 3)? Or are we good with it? AFAIK, the only argument against it is that it hits cloaked ships - but that isn't proven and that may even be an intended function (after all, you are randomly firing your beams. Makes sense that you'd have a chance to hit a cloaked ship nearby).
I know I used it for a few days a couple of weeks ago and caught flak for it, so I figured we'd try and lay this issue to rest.
But NO because it CAN logically decloak someone even if you are not aware that there is a cloaked ship behind you. Even if the Beams were set on automatic fire it would not instantly fire on a cloaked ship imo.
If you are moving around your opponent especially a Science ship with FaW will instantly decloak you (Depending on the Stealth Detection range) because its just an automatic 'Fire everything you see'. But IRL even FaW is being controlled by a Human person on board i assume.
It should only target the ships the user can see AND is aware of.
But for tournaments? Sure. Its not OP anymore. Come on. 10 seconds now. its nothing more then a Spam clearer.

Again this is true, but we as a community have to decide whether this was intended or unintentional, I think it was a not-forseen consequence.
For me, i dont care whether someone uses FaW to be honest.
I've areally been enjoying the lack of FAW recently.
Is it overpowered right now, probably not. Does it leave a bad taste in my mouth when someone uses it, yes.
The idea that someone can be shooting at things they don't even know are there is what's distasteful to me.
In a nutshell, it's not the highest priority on my list of things I'd like to see changed (not by a loooong shot). I could probably handle a copy or two in any given match, but you'll not see me using it. Accepted in a gentlemans agreement or no.
If there's 2-3+ copies of it going though, then I'll be getting ****ed (hard enough to land a tricobalt on naked hull without someone, who doesn't even know where I am, nevermind what I'm doing, blindfiring it before it even leaves the tube).
Having said that (aboiut the tric's) witrh the upcoming changes (HY Tric) it might be a necessary evil to have a copy or two in premades to combat cryptics latest BS.
Btw. From last experiences and tests, is it me or does FaW duplicate the visual of a single beam so you actually see two beams to different directions at the same time?

Dual beams have been split so that they have the ability to target 2 enemies instead of one so long as they are in the 90 degree arc.
Yep you little Faw escort shows us that faw is still OP and broken. It will never be ok until it get set back to the after dual beam bank fix / pree faw buff time.
Just becourse cryptic make stuff like spread even more OP and broke do not mean faw is cool beans.
And yes a faw cruiser still hits my little cloaked B'rel at 8km range or so sometimes
Maybe if the z-axis "tanking" was addressed and the Canon Blind Spot removed, I could get over it. Right now it may be less over powered (especially in comparison to some of the more recent broken additions) but little things like this make it too easy exploit with no real downside.
