# 1 New, need some help
10-12-2011, 11:56 PM
Ok guys need a bit of help. I am pretty new to this game and am still confused on a number of things so going to just ask away and see if anyone is willing to help out with some info.

1.) Currently playing a tactical officer do I need to be using a tactical ship?

2.) I have hear a few people mutter "use a tactical ship regardless while leveling" But they never really give a good reason why except its better. Is there a reason its better?

3.) Is there a best way to level? Currently I have been running around doing sector patrols, missions and simply farming anomalies.

Those are my biggest questions at the moment, but I know I will have more in a few hours lol.
Thank you in advance.

1) You can use any ship you like, cross class combinations work very well, although not all are great they're all good for PvE so if you want to use a cruiser it won't hamper you whilst levelling.

2) If someone's recommended an Escort for levelling it's likely just because they're so efficient at breaking things. Levelling contains a lot of combat and although all ships are capable, Escorts are just that much faster at destroying NPCs. As a rule Escorts=Lots of firepower but lack staying power. Cruisers are a little slower but are much more capable at taking damage and Science ships are sort of between the two; they can go full heals and be even more invincible or they can use debuffing skills to slow, weaken or disable there targets. Much slower in PvE than the other two classes but they can still hold their own, even if they really shine in a group.

3) As for levelling, the fastest way is by repeating several of the Featured Episodes. There are two in particular that are very fast (can be completed in 5 minutes or so) and give a lot of XP. They are Cold Comfort and Spin the Wheel (Breen front and Devidian front), repeating these over and over will help you level fast.

For your first character I'd recommend you continue with the story line missions as they're presented. That includes the story line missions (missions like Stop the Signal and Researcher Rescue etc) and the patrols (Patrols X Sector block). They give good XP but they'll also gradually increase in difficulty as you gain levels and give you chance to learn the ropes in ship and ground combat. Although it'll never become as difficult as playing against another player it will become difficult enough for a new player to want to look into what's going wrong if they're struggling.
