I use the Bridge Officer UI with red, blue and yellow. That's nice, out of the way, and useful. We don't need more than that. People choosing not to use that, it's their own fault.

Normally these things are subjective, but I think UI design has an element of science to it and you're wrong on this. The Human brain is wired to recognise shapes and colours, and to 'navigate' based on learned positioning.

We've been running multivariate tests on our website button colours where I work. It's surprising how often normal people miss key information or progress points just because the button is the same colour as the UI.

Seconded. Though the current UI is very low on the real estate side, it could be a lot better.
