If I understand correctly, some ground missions will be instanced. If this is so, is there a way to break the five member away team limit? Say if I had nine people from my fleet who wanted to do an instanced mission with me could we team up to make a ten member away team? Or at least two teams of five fighting side-by-side? It just seems to me that having more people on the ground would make for some epic fights as well as being able to have fun with more than just four of your fleet mates.
How will cover work? Will it completely stop all attacks or just mitigate damage?
What are my movement options? Could I crawl along behind a log to stay under cover?
If the captain avatar "dies" is the mission automatically aborted or do we have the option of shifting control to the ranking survivor?
Can I give a separate command to each officer?
Will there be planet-side looting? "Spoodanky grab his tricorder - I got his phaser!"
Will you consider expanding beyond the Aggressive, Defensive, Target modes for bridge officer in the future? Adding commands like 'go to way point', 'hold position', 'give cover fire (i.e. fire at whoever targets me)'.. etc.
How will beaming up/down be handled? Can we drop in anywhere on the map? If we don't like a situation can we just beam out or are we locked in for the duration of the fight?
Can I expect to see all of the old TOS fight standards? - shoulder rolls, two-handed strikes, campy fight music, judo chops, some dude getting his tunic ripped up... etc (Say yes. Say yes!)
OK... I'll stop at 8 questions (for now). Eight should be enough.
BTW - loved the new screenshots.
1. Like nearly every other poster, I want more infor on cover. Can you please be more specific?
2.
Quote:
You control your officers’ actions, and have several different modes to employ. Some of those modes include: Aggressive, meaning they’ll pursue and engage enemies; Defensive, meaning they’ll wait for your orders to attack enemies; and Target Your Target, meaning you can command your officers to focus fire on your chosen adversary.
If I have multiple NPC officers with me can I set each one to a different mode? Or if I set it for aggressive, that means all my officers are going to act aggressive?
3. You say character can equip two different weapons and swith them in combat, does that mean I can have a ranged and a melee weapon, or do kits sort of limit my style to one or the other?
4 .
Quote:
Players beam down to a planet with a five-member Away Team. If you have less than four other player captains with you, the remaining members of the away team are made up of your Bridge Officers. But if you only have two other captains on your team, two Bridge Officers from the pool of the three player captains’ Officers can be selected and beamed down with the team.
The way the above paragraph read I was a little confused, so if we have an away team of two PC and we need 3 NPC's we can pick them from either Captain's pool of officers?
1. Why the decision to have the captain lead all away teams? From the Memory Alpha away team article: "Starfleet regulations, specifically Starfleet Code Section 12, Paragraph 4, prohibit the captain from joining away missions." and "the first officer usually forms and leads the away team". Why don't we just take the role of the first officer on away missions?
exactly what i thought, too. how can it be that a few years in the future, starfleet forgot one of its most important rules and changes back its policy to the days of good ol' James T. Kirk?
even more, how can you justify beaming down 5 (!!!) captains of different ships for a highly dangerous away mission that quite definitely contains heavy fighting and the probability of casualties?
Will different planets offer different tactical possibilities beyond terrain and obstacles?
I would love to see a planet with low gravity! That would make "ground combat" really interesting. Jumping up and over obstacles to shoot at enemies, shooting while up in the air and on the way down.
Will there be planets with varying degrees of gravity? Low gravity? Heavy gravity?
Will there be environmental hazards on planets to avoid during ground combat, such as quicksand, geysers of gas or fire, hostile flora and fauna, etc.?
Will both factions have the personal shields? (I'm assuming they will, but the "factions will have distinct gameplay" comment gives me a 1% uncertainty.)
If one of our NPC Bridge Officers is "defeated" or incapacitated, are we able to beam them back to the ship, and beam down a replacement Bridge Officer, or are we just one man short for the remainder of that Away Team?
When i first heard of star trek online i was exspecting a mix of Elite fore and Bridge commander to be the outcome (very cool) but i have to admit this 3rd person thing leaves me abit disappointed, will there be the ability to go into 1st person view or have a cross like in metal gear solid where you can manually aim (first person view) your weapon!??
