# 1 Changes to Deflector Dishes
11-10-2011, 04:54 AM
I've been playing on Tribble for some time now, and I've noticed that with the skill tree revamp, there have been major changes to the deflector dishes in the game.

Up until now, I've been using a 3pc Borg set on my cruiser, but the Borg Deflector really adds little to a tanking build after the change.

Conversely, the Mk 11 positron deflector is looking very attractive, providing about 6k more hull hp, enhanced healing, and about 1k more shield hp....this plus Capx3 covariants and a choice engine seems very appealing.

Also enhanced is the Breen Set...the Breen Deflector provides nice resistances to pretty much all science powers now, and coupled with the Breen engines (not bad for a cruiser), you now get +30% kinetic damage (which seems to be bugged atm, but surely will be fixed in time) in addition to the power transfer boost. This would also free up skill points that would otherwise be used for science resists.

I'm just not sure if it'd be worth losing the the 3pc Borg set bonus. Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue? Which setup do you think will be the best for a cruiser after the update? Or maybe someone has thought of one that would be even better?

Yes. Many discovered this about a week ago and I believe its part of how the Equipment choices we make will help augment our builds in STO F2P

Currently the non set gear across the board is looking more and more attractive. I have no proof...But I would think a lot of the sets will be brought more into line because of the standard piece changes....

That would make sense....but what do I know....heheh

Personally I have always believed the best thing to run was either 3 pieces of borg gear with a good shield or Borg console and deflector with Aegis shield and engine.

If you plan on doing STFs the 3 piece borg bonus won't be that useful if you find yourself hit with shield neutraliser a lot where as the defence bonus from the 2 pieces of Aegis (one of which is the engine with its own defence boost) will help you a lot. I really wish the Aegis and Breen sets would gain a 4th piece. It would be cool to be able to run 2 Aegis and 2 Breen if the breen set bonus is fixed.

Unfortunatly neither Borg or Aegis shield is one of the new Positron deflector which boosts Hull HP, Shield HP and Shield Healing. None of the sets are.

Perhaps the answer lies with no gear sets until one or two are changed to be in line with the new stats. As a science captain in an escort using Target Shields Subsystem III I was happy to find a Positron deflector with a Flow Capacitor bonus and a Sensor bonus. Though it seems no skill in the game currently boosts the magnitude of the Sensor Scan debuff. Sensors only boosts the secondary effects.

Science nerf ftl.

Guess I was a little slow to the party with this one. I do have to say that this is a change I like. I hated being tied into sets all the time b/c they were guaranteed to be the absolute "best" gear. I mean, everyone in my fleet was running 3pc of the Borg set without exception. Now I have real choices as to what is the best for my particular build.

I'll have to play around with this for a bit, but so far I'm gonna have to say that a positron deflector seems like the frontrunner for a tanking cruiser Captain.

I run with the Borg engines, Aegis shields, Breen deflector and it... is different.

Not really slow, I am usually the last to learn these things too.
Yes, it is nice to have the options opened again.

I'm not sure any deflector out-weighs the fact that enough Borg pieces can give you a massive heal...

Indeed the problem is the borg gear has set bonuses that are so much better than any others it makes it very hard to not go 3 piece borg gear.

Since the last change, shield neutralizers don't seem to be terribly bad at all. Running STFs the other day I found I could stay ahead of shield neutralizers. There's still a lot of shield damage going on in there, more than I can stay ahead of in my escort if I'm getting focused too much, but it's a far cry from running around with no shields praying that each torpedo I see isn't coming at me.
