Some people have warned me many times of trying to kill the CE with a PUG. However, I always have great hope for humanity so I usually disregard that advice. Tonight I threw myself into another CE PUG run and unfortunately it didn't turn out as well as last time. I'm a very stubborn person though so I don't give up. I will schedule one more run:
Tuesday 22/11 22:00 CET/4pm Eastern
Password will be escortsonly.
I will now be blunt.
DO NOT show up in cruisers or science ships
DO NOT use mines
DO NOT use beams
DO NOT use photonic fleet
DO NOT fly around breaking formation
(Did I miss something?)
This is a cannon scatter volley run and you're expected to show up with the following specs:
Fleet Escort or a Defiant
3xDual Heavy Cannons in front
1xPhoton Torpedo Launcher in front
2xCannon Scatter Volley 2 or better
2xTorpedo High Yield 2 or better
You're expected to:
Target the CE (Yes, I really have to specify this apparently)
Stay still in tight formation
Maintain a distance of 7-9km from the CE
Constantly use your CSV and THY, alternating between your two copies
If you can't or won't follow these guidelines, please don't show up because you will ruin the event for those who can follow them. I will once again link to a video I expect you to watch which clearly shows the simplicity of this method. Study it and learn from it and we will be able to kill the beast within minutes giving anyone who needs the accolade a chance to get it.
Invites to do the Crystalline Entity always sound like a trap. :p
But I applaud you for offering this. I know many players struggle with this mission, as it is entirely unpuggable. Just one bad apple will ruin the mission, and people are simply not used to listening to commands via chat _and_ there are always some people that give out contradictory information.
Transpetaflops, and other members of the Accolades channel, are happy to help out with Crystalline Entity fleet actions. The channel has organized dozens of CE victories in a single weekend before. I wrote a detailed guide on how to beat it here and it addresses some of the now-faulty information (like the long-dead strategy of Scramble Sensors). I believe they'll be employing the Cannon Scatter Volley method to kill the beast, but there are also some suggested builds.
This is an open zone, correct? I would love to watch escorts do their magic.
An instance can handle 20 people so you're more than welcome. In my experience the biggest difficulty is to gather enough people at the same time and we need at least half the instance filled with escorts. But if we can't get enough people it's easy enough to try again another day. I'll suggest a new day and update my OP in that case.
2200 CET (Central European Time) "is" 4pm Eastern. Just to make sure, since the U.S. changed from Daylight Savings Time recently. There is a 6 hour difference (at this time).
Would like to show up and watch, just to see the beast die!
PS> A question concerning other abilities effects, such as Eject Warp Plasma and Photonic Fleet might be good to include in the STOWiki. i.e., what effect does Eject Warp Plasma have on crystalline fragments chasing your ship?
Eject Warp Plasma is good to keep the CE stationary. It can be a little tricky keeping formation when it moves around but it usually works anyway. I don't see much use for it on the fragments since the whole strategy is to blow them all up. Pets shouldn't be used at all since they have a tendency to spread out the fragments making them harder to control. That also includes multi vector assault mode etc. And yes, there's a 6 hour time difference between CET and Eastern time (non DST).
