# 1 Direct X 11, Abandoned?

I remember DX11 was coming to STO. It was on Tribble, then there was a problem. You had to delete a certain file to rectify the situation and then DX11 disappeared.

Is this on hold indefinitely or is there a scheduled release? I really wish I could take advantage of my DX11 cards in this graphically intense game and use my cards for the way they were intended instead of DX9.

Hah. Indeed there was a DirectX option or something when Season 4 was released. But they later said the option was non-functional. (Although some people really believed their graphics changed)

Unfortunately, since the developers are not even capable of fixing new bugs and old bugs in a reasonable timeframe, I doubt DirectX 10/11 support will be implemented anytime soon.

Cannot confirm this, but there was a discussion about DX 11 on a much different forum. The use of it, plagues a many game maker on its function. (Possible that many game engines cannot fully use its mechanics)

Just too many problems, thus...DX 9.0c are still used, because of it simplicity (if that is not enough, check the newest PC games, for which Direct X is used)

This would be a good thread to start on Monday when there is at least a remote chance we would get a dev response

the DX11 button was a FAAAAAKE

FRAPS still told me (on the Logitech G15 LCD) that the game was running in DX9 mode (my system is 100% DX11 ready) and it was even mentioned in the Tribble Patchnotes before S4 launched that the button was removed because it did nothing.

S4 had some graphics and code improvements but they had nothing to do with DX11, so the fake button confused a few players in thinking that DX11 made the game look better... but it wasn't even active.

That said, i still want DX11 ...i have DX11 hardware, please use it.

DX11 won't improve visuals much at all. It will just make your hardware (that is designed to use it) more efficient. Its like the old refrigerator vs. a new energy efficient refrigerator. They both keep your food as cold as you want it, just one does it more efficiently with the resources provided.
