I would really like to know how my EMH has the telepathic trait.

Actually...we had this discussion recently in Ten Forward.

We currently have machines that read brainwaves, so expanding from that...

In Star Trek they have machines that remotely read your brainwaves in the biobeds...It's easy to extrapolate that a computer program could be written to interpret that data, and form a reasonable facsimile of various forms of telepathy, including Empathy....then add that into the EMH's program....

I'd have to dig out the citations, but there are arguable references already in Trek that seem to support the idea of this initially odd sounding BOff trait.


Besides...It's Trek....Anything can happen...

Quite honestly a artificial Telepath seams more realistic to me then it just happening by evolution.

Somebody said, " I wish your could be more intuitive and almost read my mind. " to the EMH oneday in surgery and then ala' virtual Moriarties when have anothe one.

The emh title is their job. Telepathy is determined by race. According to the system, there's no difference between emh'w and other doffs. So, if you have a vulcan emh, it will be founder of the federation, logical, and telepathic.

Heretic said a while back that they were discussing changes to how holographic doffs worked, eliminating it as a specialization and creating a special holographic species. Instead of recruited, medical, engineering, and tactical tiers would unlock the ability to replicate EMH, EEH, and ECH doffs for EC as a separate reward from the existing commendation store.

He said in another thread that there's a whole other set of challenges associated with doing this, but it was also in his more recent big lists of doff related stuff in the works.

yeah this would be good... EMH is a species and a specialisation... adding another one to the mix and giving them race traights from that species might work but , i agree with the OP a telepathic EMH is ... strange

in Isaac Azimov's Robot novels (in which Data was an azimovian robot), there was a telepathic robot.

A computer interperating data and telepathy are not the same thing. I don't agree with the trait on the EMH Doff either
