# 1 Recommend me a console

I'm currently flying the Defiant-R, but have an interest in picking up the Excelsior-R and perhaps a Science vessel at some point. Generally, I'm curious what consoles are recommended for these ships, and which are better generally speaking. Thanks all!

Well... On the defiant, Weapon specific consoles are reccomendable.

The Borg Console from assimilated is always a plus... Fits very well into the Sci console slots.

For Eng, I can reccoment a +Kinetic damage console, Shield strength enhancer, ant the thunderchild Point defence console.

"Thunderchild Point defense console". Not sure I know that one. Is it from a specific mission?

As for the shield strength, do you mean the ones that increase shield capacity? Are those preferable to the ones that add damage resistance?

The Thunderchild PDT is squireable from the C-Store ship with the same name. It's basically a Fighter/Mine/Torpedo/Frigate killer, like a BFAW-Turret.

The shield console I use, adds to my total shield hitpoints... cant remember the name. The ones that add damage resistance, only help against one or two, in rare instance 4 weapon types, so generally they arent worth the efford... especially if you PvP.

Good to know - thanks!

If I use two of the consoles that increase shield hit-points, do they stack? Are there diminishing returns?

From what I can tell, yes... deminishing returns... but i've never been strong with math, so I am not entirely sure... I know that Console #2 dosent add as much as console #1, but that may be because of some mechanic that I dont know of...

ALSO... Wait on the purchase of new consoles right now... in a few days the F2P build goes live, with new skill- and console stats, so things may change a little for you.

Well.. All the space skills are getting what cryptic calls a overhaul... Basically they are dumbing down the system to allow you to use any ship and weapon without speccing into it... wich is a good or a bad thing, depending on who you are...

Escorts are taking a major hit to DPS, and Sci is taking a major hit to their abilities, while cruisers seem to be somewhat at the same level (slightly less) than they were before.

Sci consoles all serve diffrent functions, but it is hard to cover it all... Enough to say, that the changes are so extensive that you cryptic will be forcing you to do a respec, because the new system is incompatible with the old one...(it cant be translated).

1. Tac Consoles
Always use energy type specific consoles in all your tac slots. I.e. if you use phaser weapons, use 4 +26 phaser consoles. Never ever use +x torpedo consoles or any type of universal consoles in these slots.

2. Eng Consoles
Field Generators DO NOT stack. Use just one of these. And one is mandatory for both defiants and excelsiors.
I recommend an EPS console for the Defiant's second slot. Higher power transfer rate adds to the damage you'll deal. Sounds strange but it's a fact since you'll probably fire weapons with different recycle rates. A better power regen rate helps firing your weapons with higher power thus damage.

For the 3rd slot in an Excelsior I'd add a second EPS and a +7 weapon power console in the 4th. An 8 beam Excelsior is a beast using B:FaW2 and B:FaW3.

3. Sci Consoles
First off, sci consoles are pretty useless. Since the borg console from Assimilation is the best universal console one can get it's a must for one of the two slots for both Defiant and Excelsior.

If you want to spend your money in the C-store, get the Thunderchild. It comes with the point defence console, which I'd recommend using in the second slot of the Defiant. It's buffed by phaser skills and consoles so I'd prefer using it with a full phaser load out.

If you don't like pay to win, take an Induction Stabilizer if you use Transfer Shield Strenght or a Halon Console for Hazard Emitters. Forget about Biofunction Monitors (crew size is crap and has no influence on anything) or other consoles. Since TSS and HE are must-have sci skills, it's your turn.

Same applies to the Excelsior.

Additional info: with the free2play release I'd take a look at astrometric imaging scanners.

Use both Borg Engines and Deflector plus a Mk XI [Cap]x3 Shield (craftable or avaiable on the exchange for around 300k EC).

Science Vessels need a rather different setup depending on the BO skills.

This sounds major - can you elaborate?
