# 1 PvP Jerks and N00bs
11-30-2011, 05:58 AM
Not everyone who posts here is an elitist PvP jerk (some are). I've run into my share of elitist PvEers who have their STF time down to the second and don't have time to answer question or give advice that isn't back handed. I'm just saying that PvP, in this game or these forums, doesn't hold the monopoly on *******s.

Granted, it's harder for newer or less experienced players who come along. Not everyone in these forums has been here from the start. It was months before I even looked at PvP. It was hard then, it still is now (for me), and it's going to be a steep learning curve for anyone coming along.

The only thing that might make it easier on people who are considering getting into PvP would be for a drastic AI overhaul to the normal difficulty of PvE. Like it or not, that is where people learn what doesn't work and think it should. It's hard to unlearn something! Anyone who reached cap with no PvP experience is not going to be prepared for the fast pace (or incredibly slow pace in terms of defensive teams).

I mean honestly, there are people around here complaining because a Magoi Escort has too many abilities and can use all of them in under 30 seconds. Honestly? How many more abilities does a player have at their disposal? How fast can a player activate them? How much more efficiently can a player decide which ability to use at what time? I'm not making fun of these guys, believe it or not. It isn't their fault the larger part of this game doesn't ask for more thought on their part.

We've all seen the player type that comes along grasping at whatever excuse they can to rationalize their poor performance. I do it too. I comfort myself by pointing out when someone is exploiting a blind spot, or using that buggy AMS, even the Graviton Pulse, or whenever I see things that I know are broken. When Voldy returned I was checking logs like a mad man only to find that most simply were better than me. I don't like finding that out. It's not really a startling revelation but it's never fun to have it thrown in your face.

That's what a lot of these people are experiencing and they aren't handling it very well. So it's just easier to point out supposed factional imbalances because if your ship is better for marketing reasons then I'm actually better than you because I'm flying with a disadvantage. Right? They are frustrated but who wouldn't be? The difference is that people who care enough to want to improve will spend the time that they can to do the research, to ask the right questions, and to work out the right build. They may never achieve greatness, whatever that is, but it's the only way they are going to be able to come close to competing.

Not everyone has the time to improve. This is the most casual game I've ever played (I haven't been around much) and a major fundamental change in this regard isn't likely. If you don't have the time or spend the effort you can skate by in most things but you don't get to complain or make up bogus excuses. It's also not fair to demonize people who have been here and invested that time.

No. Being a ********'s is in the public domain and is free to all. PvP takes effort and griping doesn't count.

I can agree to this. A better AI with a higher level of lethality would better prepare the average player to PvP a little by making the player work to achieve victory.

As to the rest. Ego.

I stopped PvPing becuase of broken powers that where not being fixed anytime soon. Whats the point of playing if my ability to counter comes down to a toss of the dice?
Now that most of that seems fixed, I am having fun again regardless of the AMS, PSW, GW or GPs in play.
If and when PvP goes sideways again, I'll quit until such time as its fixed.

lol.

Yeah its very very frustrating to see so much lower experienced players in the Queues. But alot of PvE is to blame for it. Its so damn easy that players new to the PvP queues literally do not have a chance against an experienced PvPer in a Shuttle or Tier 1 ship.

It pains me

Luckily the escorts got an awesome console, the Impulse Burst Console which is very, very useful when PuGging If your team sucks, just GTFO everytime you get no support

I'm a PvP jerk :p

If you're constantly running out of Extend/heal range, I'm going to stop healing in you favor of the better teammates unless I see you absolutely need it... and even then, only to keep you from giving the other team an easy point, not to actually keep you because I want you :p

Well written as usual and you're right, a more challenging PvE space missions could help to do the miracle: less PvE superheroesuberalles and more skilled PvP fighters!

I'm such an elitist PvP jerk, STO's PvP is beneath me. Well, to be fair, most MMO PvP in general is beneath me.

See you in Mario Kart or Team Fortress II, chumps! :p

Would be cool to see them also make pvp a part of leveling a toon as well. I've lost count of the amount of ppl that I've talked to that have the wrong mentality of "I'll start pvp'ing after I get to VA". IMO, thats completely backwards. It's sooooo much easier to learn to pvp early on with five abilities at your disposal instead of twenty that not only you have to figure out, but also counter when the other five ppl with there 100 abilities are shooting at you. Learning pvp at those lower levels as ppl ranked up would yield a lower burn out rate of ppl trying pvp for the first time once they hit VA. I'd like to see every person have to participate in at least ten pvp matches before they can rank up. Thats one mach per level. By the time you hit va, ppl that actually tried and learned from those matches, eve if thu only played the minimum required, would have a much better understanding of the game mechanics before entering VA/LG matches. This requirement would also stimulate the lower level pvp queue as well.

Harder AI in PvE might pay off for the PvP crowd by training up your future teammates/advesaries a little better, but I wouldn't get too excited that it is going to happen.

A lot of the casual types that MMOs cater to won't ever bother with PvP, and increasing the default difficulty of PvE will make them cry.

I think if Cryptic has to make a choice between either toughening PvE up to prep peeps for PvP or just letting the PvP L33ts that continue to hang out train up the noobs (or n00bs getting no prep at all) then PvE isn't likely to see any increase in difficulty. Sorry.

Fallout: There is probably no way they would ever force people to PvP. They'd lose too many people who just have absolutely no interest in it.
