# 1 New STFs - Made for Escorts
12-01-2011, 11:35 PM
I thought we found the right balance with STFs on Tribble, but I was mistaken. The new STFs are not made for Cruisers or Science ships, but it's made for Escorts.

While Infected Space is acceptable, Cure and Khitomer Space is nothing but NPC Spam in which Cruisers and Science Ships are incapble of destroying the waves in time. So they need to be scaled back to like they were on Tribble prior to the update.

STF space have always been escort fodder.

That aside, if this is what passes as endgame content, all ship classes must be viable.

- What logic is there in making a queue system that punishes the players for not being an escort or perhaps land in an escort light team?

This simply is counter intuitive to what these changes were supposed to create: endgame time sink for everyone, including your yearned for hordes of f2players who will definitely NOT sit in kinked out ships like we do, which limits sci and cruiser ships even further.

Moar work, tis needs it.

I made a similar thread about the original versions of the new STFs on tribble wich were IMO to burst damage focussed (although I liked them still better for everything but class balance).

But for class inbalance... I do not think that is true for the versions that went life.

1. Escorts just can make damage as long as they are alive.... Spheres and Borg raptors make a lot of damage, without healing support its prety hard to survive. Also, the Kang in Cure is a big fan of healing if you want the optional.
2. Its not that cruisers cant make damage at all....
3. Scis can make damage, too, with their abilitys.... also especially holds are very very usefull in the new STFs... A gravity well or tractor beam is very helpfull by preventing the nano spheres from getting close enough to heal the generators or the probes in Kithomer from reaching their destination... or the ships in cure from reaching the Kang.

No I think I terms of class balance they are as good as it can be.

Hmmm. I played 7 space instances of STFs (all three) yesterday with my Gal-X and played along various setups of cruisers, sci and carriers with escorts, raptors and Bops thrown in. never had a big problem really.
if the groups works coordinated they are doable (normal ones, havenīt tested elite yet)

No, not really. While I agree that a lot of damage is necessary, I did pretty well with my DSSV yesterday. While most powers seem to be nerfed, Gravity Well III can be quite impressive with the right skills now. PUGs and escpecially PUG escorts tend to ignore everything except their target, a sci ship for controls and a cruiser for heals is a nice addition.

I've not tested the STFs but if this is true it wouldn't be surprising and it is a shame. We should be encouraged to bring balanced teams. Unfortunately the most damage always determines the winner for PvE (especially Ker'rat farming and the like). Science control powers and healing are very significant (sometimes more so) but rewards rarely reflect this fact.

Yeah I think you're overreacting here, maybe on a normal STF a bunch of escorts could plow through, but anything higher is going to require a well balanced team with people doing their class specific jobs. *Gasp* Shocking, I know.

i swear azurian has some vendetta against escorts.

if the players is decent enough then cruisers and science can get the job done. science is quite handy with its holds for spam. escorts are always handy to have but they are not 100% needed.
